6 Regions Overview


#Kinai (畿內) — Center of the Realm

#Scent

The cultural center around Kyoto, where the emperor sits. The oldest cities and the oldest yoma coexist here. A stage for politics and intrigue.

#Law

  • Factions: Kagura Domain (near its base), Hiei League (Mount Hiei), Sakai Guild (Sakai Port)
  • Yoma Traits: many onryo and yoko. Few oni. "Civilized" yoma.
  • Specialties: silk, blades (source of famed swords), sutras, sacred sake
  • Campaign Themes: political intrigue, negotiations among factions, yoko infiltration, secrets within cities

#Kanto (關東) — Land of Warriors

#Scent

Broad plains and rugged mountains. The home ground of blunt, hard-edged warriors. Fuma Band (風魔衆) moves in the dark, and large-scale field battles are fought here.

#Law

  • Factions: Fuma Band, Ikko-ikki (some branches)
  • Yoma Traits: many oni in the mountains. Giant yoma such as nue and gyuki also appear.
  • Specialties: horses (source of mounted warriors), iron, gunpowder ingredients
  • Campaign Themes: large field battles, cavalry charges, ninja operations, domain disputes

#Omi (近江) — Land of Lakes and Technology

#Scent

A fertile region around Lake Biwa (琵琶湖). Kunitomo Guild makes teppo and karakuri here. Aquatic yoma live in the lake, and lakeside villages learned long ago how to coexist with yoma.

#Law

  • Factions: Kunitomo Guild, Enryokan (nearby)
  • Yoma Traits: aquatic yoma (kappa, Ryugu-related beings). Spider faction (Ibuki Garden).
  • Specialties: teppo, karakuri, medicinal herbs, freshwater fish
  • Campaign Themes: the boundary between technology and yoma, underwater scenarios, experiments in coexistence

#Kii (紀伊) — Holy Sites and Deep Forest

Kii sacred forest: towering cedar trunks into mist, a stone torii half-swallowed by foliage, a sense of being watched from above

#Scent

The deep woods and sacred mountains of Kumano (熊野). A land of ascetics. Esoteric monks and Pure Land monks range through the mountains, and tengu legends are strongest here. The mountains themselves are filled with spiritual energy.

#Law

  • Factions: Hiei League (branch), Muhyeon Band (tengu, near Kurama)
  • Yoma Traits: tengu are dominant. Lesser yoma are few because the tengu manage them.
  • Specialties: sealing talismans, ascetic tools, spirit-medicine ingredients
  • Campaign Themes: tengu trials, training and enlightenment, exploring the boundary of the Spirit Realm

#Saikai (西海) — Foreign Winds

Saikai foreign-wind coast: a nanban ship's hull and rigging in sparse line, a distant island, gulls as two strokes, sea-haze

#Scent

Kyushu (九州) and the south. The gateway of Nanban (南蠻) trade. Teppo first arrived here, and foreign culture and religion flow in. The homeland of foreigner characters.

#Law

  • Factions: Sakai Guild (trade base), foreigner powers
  • Yoma Traits: sea yoma (umibozu, funayurei). Unknown yoma coming up from the south.
  • Specialties: teppo, gunpowder, Nanban armor, foreign medicines, glass
  • Campaign Themes: maritime trade, pirates, foreign cultural clashes, unknown yoma

#Ou (奧羽) — Northern Wilds

Ou northern wilderness: snowbound mountains, a frozen ridge, one bare tree, a pale crack-line in the sky (thinning veil); no figures

#Scent

The old lands of the Emishi (Ainu). Deep mountains and harsh winters. In remote places beyond Yamato culture, wildlanders live with kamuy. This is one of the places where the boundary of the Spirit Realm is thinnest.

#Law

  • Factions: wildlander tribes (many, small), Shuten Mountain (oni influence expanding)
  • Yoma Traits: ancient yoma. Beings that are only legends elsewhere are alive here.
  • Specialties: furs, medicinal herbs, obsidian, blessings of kamuy
  • Campaign Themes: survival, encounters with wildlanders, ancient yoma hunts, Spirit Realm exploration

#Kanto (Musashi/Kai)

5A swarm of kamaitachi attacks a village. Battle against invisible enemies. Detection is key.
6Signs of a gashadokuro in a ruined castle. Graveyard exploration.

#Kii (Kumano/Kurama)

5A Spirit Realm fissure opens in a temple built on a ley line. Guard the sealing ritual.
6A Shugendo master disappears. Deep in the mountains, traces of ancient yoma.
7Screams come from a volcano crater every night. A ritual by Shuten Mountain followers.
8The principal image of a Kannon hall is stolen. It has fallen into the hands of a yoma trader. Tracking request.
9A giant spiderweb in the forest. A spider shrine maiden of Ibuki Garden is expanding her territory.
