#1st Dan — Wandering Earth Officer (地官)

#Scent

A young earth officer who wanders the mountain ranges of the realm without a fixed home. With one compass and one suyari, he reads the flow of earth veins. He listens to the ground before words.

#Background — How the Adventure Began

Ryuun was originally a gardener tending the grounds of a temple. In the year he turned fourteen, a giant pine in the garden began to wither for no clear reason. The head priest called it "a tree illness," but Ryuun instinctively felt that the earth vein had twisted. When he dug into the earth himself and transplanted the branch roots, the pine recovered. An old feng shui master who saw it took him as a disciple.

For three years, he traveled along mountains and rivers with his master. The master rarely spoke, and Ryuun learned how to see through his body. After the master's death, he began wandering again with only a compass and a suyari. A daimyo heard rumors of him and invited him to a battlefield, asking him to read the earth veins of the land where the enemy main camp stood. Ryuun spent one day studying the structure of the hill near the main camp, and that night performed Twist Earth Veins at that point. The next day, the enemy main camp's well dried up. That was Ryuun's first battlefield.

#5th Dan — Reader of Mountains

#Scent

His name is known beyond the borders. Daimyo line up to obtain his advice. Yet Ryuun does not belong to any particular faction, because earth veins take no side.

#Background — How He Came This Far

After 1st dan, Ryuun crossed eight battlefields over five years. Each time the employer was different, and each time he transformed zones to overturn the battle. On his fifth battlefield, he gained the decisive technique: Dragon Point (龍穴) Activation. If a specific point where earth veins intersect is awakened through ritual, that whole zone becomes an environment favorable to allies. He gained this technique while rereading an old secret text left by his master. When Ryuun understood a passage his master had not understood in life, he quietly wept.

Around this time, Ryuun rejected a proposal of marriage from one daimyo. "All land is my home. If I remain in one place, I am not a feng shui master." He still wanders. But now, three disciples follow behind him. Each comes from a different temple, but before him they all learn how to see the land.

#10th Dan (Tatsujin) — "Ryuun of Barriers"

#Scent

The greatest living feng shui master. The Kyoto Onmyoryo seeks his counsel, and Kagura Domain commissions border defense from him. Enemies who enter his barrier do not even know they have done so.

#Background — How He Earned the Renown Title

Ryuun's legend was completed on the day he finished the barrier of the Minamoto border. When it was foreseen that a great fiend of Hannyakai would attack Minamoto territory, Ryuun spent three months visiting seven points in the border mountains in sequence and installing linked barriers. The moment the great fiend crossed the border, the barrier activated, and as soon as the great fiend stepped inside the border, he mistook himself as still outside the mountains. He wandered through that mistake for three days, then finally retreated on his own.

After that day, Ryuun received the Renown Title Barrier Saint. He still wanders and reads mountains. Only now, the mountains recognize him first.
