#Additional General Techniques (一般特技) — Section Index

Contents

#Identity

To the core list of 18 general techniques, 25 additional general techniques (5 axes × 5 each) are newly established. Classified into the 5 axes of combat, social, survival, cross-cultural, and narrative (cinematic). Constraints on villains and some outside classes follow the core principles.

#Design Goals

  • A total of 25 new general techniques (5 each across 5 axes).
  • The 5-axis classification:
  • Combat 5: Block, Combo Strike, Vital-Point Sense, Resolve Against Yoma, (others)
  • Social 5: Disguised Identity, Intelligence Network, (others)
  • Survival 5: Session Rest, Wild Instinct, (others)
  • Cross-cultural 5: Interpretation, Diplomacy, Foreign Etiquette, the definition of the Bearing check, etc. (linked with foreign-type schools)
  • Narrative (cinematic) 5: Turn of Fate, Comrade Rescue, Breakthrough, (others)
  • Classification compliance: Written within the range of the 4 types [aptitude]·[Kata]·[stance]·[upkeep] used by the 18 core general techniques. ([technique] is the core type tied to weapons and consumables, and [school] is the school-replacement type; neither is used for general techniques.)
  • Constraints premised on villains and Outsiders follow the core conventions as written.
  • Repeated-acquisition notation — some techniques allow ×2, ×3 repeated acquisition (precedent of the core Tough and Swift).

#§ Design Perspective

  • 18 core general techniques + 25 of this expansion = a pool of 43 total. PCs choose freely.
  • The cross-cultural line links automatically with the foreign-origin backgrounds of 02-alt-backgrounds — the techniques are defined in this section, and 02 references them from the background side.
  • The narrative (cinematic) line references the operating principles of the 1st-expansion Commoner narrative techniques — a hybrid of numbers + narrative branching.
  • 30-10 Grimdark dependency notation: some techniques of the narrative line (Breakthrough, etc.) explicitly note dependence on 30-10·30-03 Variant B.
  • Critical Expansion notation: 03-01 §Vital-Point Sense applies this expansion's 00-05 §15 Critical Expansion (adjacent eyes recognized).

"A technique is a habit. Skill is learned, but the habit is chosen by the body."
