#Alternate Backgrounds (代替背景) — Section Index

Contents

#Identity

This adds alternate growth branches (5th-dan/9th-dan forks) to the core 13 backgrounds, and newly establishes 5 new backgrounds + 5 foreign origins. A background is the starting point of a PC's narrative and a growth branch point at the midgame (5th dan) and late game (9th dan).

#Design Goals

  • Core 13 backgrounds × alternate branch (C route) — 13 branches completed (02-01).
  • 5 new backgrounds: Refugee, Pirate, Mixed-Blood Child, War Comrade, Heterodox Believer (02-02).
  • 5 foreign-origin backgrounds: Joseon, Ming, Nanban, Northern Nomad, Spirit Realm Immigrant (02-03).
  • 1~2 additional techniques per background — a background-specialized general trait or a narrative technique.
  • Selectable in parallel with the core existing branches (5th dan/9th dan). Not a replacement.
  • Foreign-origin backgrounds link automatically with the foreign Adaptation traits (general traits).

#§ Design Perspective

  • Keeping the core A/B branches: no modification of the core original. A parallel C branch is added.
  • Foreign Adaptation link: the 02-03 foreign origins link automatically with the 03-04 foreign Adaptation traits.
  • 1st-expansion compatibility: the 02-01 Child of the Spirit Realm C branch links with the 1st-expansion Spirit Realm system.
