#Shurado (修羅道, Path of Asura)

A demon of war. A warrior who swallowed an oni core and became a being between human and oni.

  • Role: Front Zone destroyer, fear spreader, self-destructive damage dealer

  • Base Class: samurai × Esoteric Monk (outer path)
  • Three Ways and Six Hearts: Hegemony or Demon. Each combat risks moving 1 step toward Demon.
  • Skills Eligible for Master: Swordsmanship, Unarmed Combat, Fighting Spirit, Intimidation, Exorcism (inverted use), Hardiness
  • Starting Automatic Skills: Swordsmanship Trained, Unarmed Combat Novice, Fighting Spirit Novice, Intimidation Novice

#Scent — A Blade Drunk on Blood

Some samurai spill too much blood in war. Enemy blood and their own. Even when the war ends, they cannot put down the blade. Without the smell of blood, they cannot sleep; without an enemy, they cannot breathe.

When such a warrior swallows an oni core (鬼核), they fall into Shurado. In Buddhist terms, it is the world of asura (阿修羅): beings that fight without end, rage without end, and bleed without end. Oni strength enters human swordsmanship, and a "demon of war" is born.

When Shuten-doji of Shuten Mountain sees a Shurado warrior, he says, "Ah, one of my kind." But a Shurado warrior does not enjoy wine as Shuten-doji does. They desire only combat. That is what makes them more frightening than Shuten-doji.

  • Recommended Weapons: kanabo (oni weapon), zanbato (oversized blade), uchigatana
  • Recommended Schools: Jigen-ryu (single-strike specialization, suited to Shurado's explosiveness), none (bestial self-taught style)

#Law — Trait List

#1st Dan: Oni Core (鬼核) [aptitude]

[aptitude] Oni Core (鬼核)
Effect: You have swallowed an oni core. Constant effects:
 - Attack checks +2 (oni strength)
 - Wounds +2 (oni durability)
 - fear immunity (rage overcomes fear)
 - **Humanity (人間性)**: starts at 10. At the end of each combat, -1. At 0, convert into an NPC oni (character lost).
 - Humanity recovery: +1 from meaningful human-relationship events outside combat (GM judgment). Maximum 10.

#3rd-Dan Class Traits (choose 1)

Sense of War (戰の感覺)[aptitude]Free entry/exit to the Core Zone (removes samurai forced Breakthrough limit). Additional attack +1 in the Core Zone. "Most comfortable in the heart of war."

Oni Regeneration (鬼の再生)[aptitude]Automatically recover 1 Wound each lull. The oni core repairs the body. However, it only works while Humanity is 5 or lower.

#9th-Dan Advanced Traits (choose 1)

Shura Barrier (修羅結界)[stance]3MaintainWhile maintained, the same zone becomes a "shura field" (修羅場): all units in the zone, friend and foe, gain attack +2 and Defense -2. Fleeing/Retreat impossible. "Inside this, you fight until death."

#Extreme Strengths

  • Strongest pure combat power. Oni Core bonuses (attack+2, Wounds+2) combine with samurai Front Zone techniques.
  • Mass suppression capability that disables entire squads with a roar.
  • A reversal warrior who grows stronger as Wounds drop. The moment before death is the most frightening.
  • Free Core Zone entry + Core Zone bonus = ruler of the Core Zone.

#Extreme Weaknesses

  • Humanity system: -1 each combat. At 0, character lost (converted into NPC oni). Recovery is extremely difficult.
  • Each lull, Physique>=13 frenzy check: on failure, attack indiscriminately for 1 breath, friend and foe alike. You cut allies.
  • Negotiation -2: oni energy shows on the face. Traces of horns, red eyes.
  • Exorcism weakness: because of the oni core, exorcism techniques deal additional 1 Wound damage.
  • Allied Cohesion loss: when you use Shura Roar, allied squads also lose Cohesion -1.

#Typical Breath Pattern (5th Dan, Kanabo)

Count 12 — First breath:
 Kanabo Smash(3) + Shura Roar(2) = 5
 → enemy 2 Wounds + fear for everyone in the zone

Count 8 — Second breath:
 Kanabo Smash(3) + reservation: Kanabo Block(2) = 5
 → enemy 2 Wounds + counterattack preparation

Remaining Energy: 13(Oni Core+2) - 5 - 5 = 3 (stored)

#Zone Bonuses

Core ZoneFree entry. Kanabo costs +1 Energy, but Shurado's pure combat power rules the Core Zone.
Rear ZoneDoes not go there. Shurado exists only in the heart of war.

#Three Ways and Six Hearts Conflict

Shurado's core drama is the extinction of Humanity.

  • "Am I still human?" This question returns each time Humanity falls.
  • Oni temptation: "The core wants more." At Humanity 5 or lower, the GM roleplays the oni's whisper.
  • Anchor of human relationships: The only way to recover Humanity is human connection outside combat: conversation with companions, exchange with villagers, love.
  • Relationship with Shuten Mountain: Shuten-doji "welcomes" Shurado warriors. But whether a Shurado warrior becomes Shuten-doji's subordinate or walks their own path depends on Humanity.
  • Final conflict: Before Humanity reaches 0, the oni core can be voluntarily removed. Combat power drops by half, but the character returns to human. This is the Shurado PC's most dramatic choice.

"I cannot sleep without the smell of blood. Whether it is human blood or oni blood, I can no longer tell."
