#1st Dan — Young Person of the Boundary

#Scent

A young person born between a human father and a yoma mother. Outwardly human, but when the moon is full, their eyes turn violet. They do not know what they are. They do not try to know.

#Background — How the Adventure Began

Shion's mother was a mountain yoko known as "the long-haired woman." She had a relationship with a human village pharmacist and gave birth to Shion. When Shion was two, their mother returned to her yoma nature and vanished into the mountains. Their father raised Shion alone. The villagers noticed Shion was different from ordinary children, but because the father was a skilled pharmacist, they did not drive Shion out.

In the year Shion turned sixteen, an old woman in the village saw Shion and threw a stone, saying, "That child is not human." That night, Shion's father collapsed from an unknown illness. The next morning, Shion left the village carrying one kodachi that had belonged to their father and one pouch of medicinal herbs. They did not resent the village. They only had to learn what they were.

An old shugenja met on the road told Shion, "Half of you is in the mountain, and half in the village. Whichever side you choose becomes yours." Shion could not answer. From that day on, they decided to experience both sides: taking requests to exorcise yoma, while also trying to understand yoma speech.

#5th Dan — Half-Revealed Nature

#Scent

After several years of experience, Shion learned Half-Transformation. Their claws lengthen, their eyes turn violet, and their strength rises. But they do not become fully yoma. By instinct, they know they cannot return if they cross that line.

#Background — How They Came This Far

After 1st dan, Shion wandered for four years, alternating between yoma exorcism and yoma negotiation. In the third year, they met a young yoko. The yoko had lost its mother and was alone. Shion chose not to kill that yoko. They entrusted it to a Kagura Domain onmyoji so it would be protected instead of sealed. That choice made a small crack in Shion's Heart (心): not complete Truth, but the door toward Demon beginning to open.

In the fourth year, Shion triggered Half-Transformation for the first time. While fighting a Tatarigami retainer, at the moment of death, their body automatically began becoming yoma. When their mind returned, the retainer was dead and Shion was covered in blood. Their yoma nature had seized the body for an instant. The power of that moment was overwhelming, but for three days afterward, Shion could not stand before a mirror.

The shinobi Kage visited Shion around that time. After looking into Shion's eyes for a long while, Kage said, "There are two people inside you. That is not a bad thing." For the first time, Shion learned how not to deny their own nature.

#10th Dan (Tatsujin) — "Great Yoma Shion"

#Scent

A hanyo who has fully succeeded in controlling their yoma nature. Their name is known in both human society and yoma society. They are not aggressive, but everyone knows that if touched, something even Shion cannot control may burst out.

Renown Title: Class Capstone — Great Yoma.

#Background — How They Earned the Renown Title

Shion's legend begins with reuniting with their mother. During the Edoku Disturbance, Shion learned that their mother had been captured by a Hannyakai Shurado group and made into an experimental subject. They infiltrated Hannyakai's workshop alone. Kage and Enku joined during the process, but the final moment belonged to Shion alone.

Their mother had already lost her own form and was in agony from the experiments. She did not recognize her child. On the spot, Shion attempted Complete Transformation. When their whole body changed into yoma form, their mother recognized them for a moment. "My child." Shion sent their mother on with their own hands. It was the last compassion they could give her.

After that day, Shion is called Great Yoma. In yoma society, Shion is regarded as one of them; in human society, Shion's presence has made communication with yoma possible. Shion does not fully belong to either side. That is their nature.
