#30-Second Summary (Read At Player Start)

"On a spring night, your domain, Kagamiyama, was cut out of the earth. One deep, soundless fall. When you opened your eyes, the land outside the domain was no longer Japan. A bleeding wasteland, a forest where chains grew, and boiling lakes surrounded the domain."

"That night, the domain's retired onmyoji, old Hoshino Gensho, spent the last of his strength to raise a Barrier around the domain. Even now, he remains on his knees, maintaining the Barrier. That one Barrier is everything between the domain and the Spirit Realm(靈界)."

"Your young lord, Kamijo Akihisa(上條 昭久, age 16), gathered everyone who could still move. You are everything he could gather."

"Whether you search for a clue to return, or bring back yoma cores to maintain the Barrier, someone has to go outside."

#5-Minute Summary (For GM Familiarity)

#The Domain

Kagamiyama Domain(鏡山領) — a small valley surrounded by mountains at the northern edge of Echigo Province. The hereditary land of the kokunin Kamijo family. About 800 residents, with an annual income of 5,000 koku. In Japan's war-torn Konsei(混世), it was a peaceful frontier that had never fought even a single war.

Its main products are rice, silver, and lacquer. Geographically isolated, it lay outside the attention of the great powers. This isolation was the pride the Kamijo family protected for 3 generations, and now it is a curse.

#The Night Of The Drift

On Keicho 12(1607), the 3rd lunar month, day 14, the full moon split in two. The old onmyoji Hoshino Gensho sensed the anomaly that night from his shrine. By the following dawn, a sky that had never existed on earth covered the domain.

Why did Kagamiyama drift? No one knows.

Only one thing is clear now: the domain is in the Spirit Realm.

#The Spirit Realm

The Spirit Realm is this supplement's stage, an expanded and concrete version of the core Spirit Realm concept. Its surface is a warped reflection of familiar scenery, but the deeper one goes, the stronger the colors of the Buddhist 8 Great Hells become.

  • Reviving Hell(等活) — a wasteland of those who revive after being wounded and fight again. It is closest to the domain.
  • Black Rope Hell(黑繩) — a forest where black chains grow from the ground.
  • Screaming Hell(叫喚) — a lake of boiling water. The remains of an old fishing village float there.
  • Scorching Heat Hell(焦熱) — an eternally burning city. Traces of other drifters who fell here long ago.
  • Avici Hell(無間) — the place with the nameless door. Here lie the branches of return, settlement, and transformation.

The Spirit Realm is full of yoma. All the yoma of the core, and hell-native yoma besides.

#The Barrier

The Barrier Hoshino Gensho raised that night is a spherical spiritual wall covering the entire domain.

  • Barrier HP: starts at 100.
  • Natural decrease: -3 per week (pressure from the Spirit Realm itself).
  • Yoma intrusion attempts: sometimes Lord-grade yoma strike the Barrier. -5~-15.
  • Maintenance cost: yoma cores must be injected periodically.

Barrier HP 0 = the domain falls. The campaign ends.

#The Onmyoji's Burden

Hoshino Gensho is a 10th-dan Tatsujin, but he is far too old to protect a 100-point Barrier alone. He was an old man who normally lived in quiet retirement at the domain shrine. In ordinary conditions, core supply maintains the Barrier, but in extreme situations(Lord-grade yoma breakthrough attempts, or Barrier HP 20 or lower), he must burn his own life to maintain it in emergency.

Every session, Gensho weakens a little. More white hair. Trembling hands. A thinner voice. The residents are watching.

#The Young Lord

Kamijo Akihisa(上條 昭久, age 16) — he inherited the seat when his father died of illness 2 years ago. He is small and young-faced, but has a surprisingly firm core. Under the core Three Ways and Six Hearts, he begins in a state where no specific Heart has been fixed yet. His growth is one axis of the campaign.

He gathered everyone who could still move: four domain samurai and a few resident volunteers. That is where the PC party stands.

#The Expedition's Tasks

  1. Survival: keep securing yoma cores to maintain the Barrier.
  2. Exploration: map the Spirit Realm and find clues to return.
  3. Protection: the onmyoji's life, the lord's will, the residents' morale — if even one collapses, it is over.
  4. Choice: return, a new life in this land, or becoming part of the Spirit Realm.

#Why Kagamiyama Fell (The Truth)

100 years ago, at the bottom of Mirror Pond on the northern edge of Kagamiyama Domain, there was an ancient Enmadoji sealing stone. It connects to the core Enmadoji Seal setting.

That seal is maintained by 2 of its 3 axes (core Canon). After the sealing rite ended 100 years ago, Kagamiyama's ancestors built a shrine on that spot and let it sleep there, "forgotten."

On Keicho 12, 3rd month, day 14, somewhere else in the core world, 1 of the 3 axes of the Enmadoji Seal came undone. The remaining 2 axes could not maintain a complete seal → Enmadoji's influence erupted first through its weakest link. Kagamiyama's sealing stone was that weak link.

As the sealing stone awakened, everything on that site(=the domain) connected to the Spirit Realm. Strictly speaking, it did not "fall"; it was "drawn in." The domain slipped one layer toward the Spirit Realm.

#The True Cause Of The Drift — 3 Layers

  1. Layer 1(surface): a supernatural anomaly that looks like a natural disaster. No one's malice caused it.
  2. Layer 2(history): part of the 100-year-old seal lay beneath Kagamiyama → the ancestors' choice.
  3. Layer 3(truth): someone trying to break the seal is moving elsewhere in the core world. Kagamiyama's drift is a side effect of that plan. This supplement does not name that "someone" — so the GM can connect them to the higher antagonist of their own campaign.

#What Return Means

To return the domain to the core world:

  • Option A (Waystation Return): put the sealing stone beneath Kagamiyama back to sleep. The true form of the Chapter 5 "Nameless Door" is the sealing stone. Resident harm is minimized, but Enmadoji is still at risk of release.
  • Option B (Exchange Return): leave something else in the Spirit Realm as the price for sending the domain back. The onmyoji, or one of the PCs.
  • Option C (Settlement): make the Spirit Realm the domain's new home. Kagamiyama becomes an isolated human domain permanently settled in the Spirit Realm. It cannot return to the core world.
  • Option D (Transformation): the PCs transform into Spirit Realm beings. A choice to give up humanity for the domain.

#What Can Be Revealed To Players (Standard)

Reveal at start:

  • Full 30-second summary
  • The young lord's appearance and name
  • The onmyoji's existence, name, and desperate maintenance of the Barrier
  • The basic concept of the Spirit Realm (many yoma, dangerous outside)
  • The domain's internal geography
  • Barrier HP and weekly decrease (recommended to reveal the exact numbers after 2~3 sessions)

Reveal gradually:

  • Details of the core economy (middle of session 1)
  • Resident morale value (session 2)
  • Signs of the onmyoji's life depletion (visible changes from session 3)
  • The themes of the Spirit Realm's hells (when entering each chapter)
  • The seal from 100 years ago (Chapter 3)
  • The existence of the sealing stone (late Chapter 4)
  • Conditions for the 3-branch ending (Chapter 5)

Hide until the end:

  • The higher causal chain in which 1 of Enmadoji's 3 axes came undone (until before the Chapter 5 climax)
  • Direct evidence hinting that "the drift was not a natural disaster, but a side effect of a plan" (as late as possible)

#Three Lines For Setting Tone

  1. "There is a home to return to. But there is no road back." — hope and despair at once.
  2. "The Barrier is a single life." — the onmyoji's fate is bound to the Barrier.
  3. "Whom to lose, and whom to protect." — victory is not annihilation, but choice.

#Bonus — 5-Person Table Impressions Log

Hana: While we were playing the core, I kept wondering, "What remains when all these battles pile up?"

Kuro: This supplement starts with "hold out so it doesn't collapse" before "go on an adventure."

Mei: That's a good way to explain it.
