#Great Dharma King of Shonetsu(焦熱の大法王)

#Profile

  • True name: Kitami Masanobu(北見 正信). 229 years old (29 in life + 200 years transformed).
  • Status in life: 3rd lord of Kitamiyama, a kokujin domain in southern Echigo.
  • Current form: human silhouette × living flame. His crown is seven tongues of fire. His throne is made of ash burned from the souls of the domain.
  • Yoma grade: lord-grade(主級) — hellfire exorcism yoma. An upper category above the Great Oni(大鬼) in the main bestiary.
  • Residence: top of the keep's 7th floor.

#Narrative Identity

He is not a villain. 200 years ago, he loved his domain too much. He did not want to lose his people, so he chose "transformation." That choice made his domain an eternal prison of fire. He knows this. He has been punishing himself for 200 years.

His research(the study) is a 200-year record of searching for a way to save his own domain. The conclusion: release is possible if someone who seals the seal again comes. He knew that person would not come — but he prepared.

#Personality and Speech

  • Voice: deep and slow. Vowels stretch long.
  • Speech: courteous but distant. He calls the PCs "you," but his eyes look into the past.
  • Emotion: restrained. In the release scene, however, 200 years of grief erupts all at once.

#Interaction With PCs

SituationResponse
PCs ask the Great Dharma King a question (first conversation)He answers. He explains the logic of his choice. Not self-defense — confession.
PCs condemn the Great Dharma KingSilence. He accepts every accusation. But he defends only this: "I loved my domain."
PCs declare to the Great Dharma King, "you may rest now"Phase 3 release. He sinks down. He becomes ash.
PCs attack the Great Dharma KingHe counterattacks reflexively. But his attacks carry hesitation.

#Lines (GM Reference)

"You have come. I have waited 200 years for you. Let me rest."

"I was a king. My name is Kitami Masanobu. Have you heard that name? I — even I have almost forgotten it."

"My people are beside me. Forever. What I wanted. What I gained. But they — they no longer recognize me."

"Is your lord wiser than I was? I want to see him. But if I see him, I may keep him here. Tell him not to come."

"This drift is not an accident. Wherever a seal loosens, a domain falls."

#Return Faction Ghost — Izanagi(伊邪那岐)

#Profile

  • True name: Izanagi. Around 20 years old in life. A young soldier of Kitamiyama.
  • Current form: silhouette in young armor. Tears are frozen in his eyes. The hand holding his sword has not stopped for 200 years.
  • Grade: veteran-grade (combat power is 10th-dan yoma level).
  • Residence: eastern auxiliary gate of the city. He has guarded that place for 200 years.

#Narrative Identity

The last remaining member of the return faction. He inherited Atobe Reika's resolve and rejected transformation to the end. His former comrades have all transformed or died. He is alone. But his conviction has not broken.

His struggle is meaningless repetition. The transformed comrades he cuts down rise again. He knows this. Even so, he does not stop — because he knows that if he stops, he will no longer be himself.

#Personality and Speech

  • Voice: young. But 200 years of exhaustion cling to it.
  • Speech: neat. Uses respectful speech. At moments, tears mix into his voice.
  • Emotion: outwardly resolute. Inside, despair and solitude.

#Interaction With PCs

SituationResponse
PCs try to talkHe pauses briefly. For the first time in 200 years, he sees new people.
PCs try to fight beside himGratitude. But he warns them: "This fight does not end."
PCs suggest "you may rest now"He wavers. But he refuses, saying, "I still must guard this place." Yet the PCs' words remain.
PCs attack himHe resists. 10th-dan yoma combat power. Even if the PCs win, their Three Ways and Six Hearts Blood axis runs wild.

#Technique Transmission

If Izanagi acknowledges a PC, he teaches his swordsmanship. Technique name: "Sword of Weeping(泣の剣)".

  • Teaching requirements: fight beside him and endure for at least 5 minutes, or express empathy with his conviction
  • Effect: each time the sword is swung, the name of the one being cut comes to mind. Effective in the Great Dharma King battle (usable for name-calling attacks)
  • 1 clue toward 9th-dan advancement

#Lines

"Are you new arrivals? I have not seen new arrivals in 200 years. So there were others who fell as we did."

"I am Izanagi. Last soldier of the Kitami house. Return faction. I wanted to go back. I still want to go back."

"I ask you. Who is your lord? What did your lord choose? If he has not yet chosen transformation — transformation is not salvation. It is an eternal prison."

#Settlement Faction Ghost (Leader) — Mikura's Vestige

#Profile

  • True name: Mikura(三倉). Late 40s in life. A retainer of the Kitami house. Managed merchants and technical workers.
  • Current form: the leader's place among the Half-Ash circle. Half human, half ashen. Cannot speak. Only his mouth moves.
  • Grade: minion-grade (Half-Ash state. Combat power is very low).
  • Residence: central hall of the underground waterway in the city's northern zone.

#Narrative Identity

He chose the 3rd path. He judged both transformation and return to be extremes. He argued, "We remain here as humans." But they could not stay in the Spirit Realm without a Barrier, and his group was fixed in a half-transformed state.

His choice failed. But he does not regret his decision — he and 30 comrades are together. That is all he has left.

#Personality and Speech (Murmuring)

  • There is no actual sound. Only lip movement.
  • If a PC listens with Perception Target Number 15, it is conveyed as the shape of emotions.
  • Emotional makeup: despair 30% · peace 20% · regret 20% · resignation 15% · small satisfaction 10% · anger 5%.

#Interaction With PCs

"We chose the middle. The middle ... was fixation."

"We cannot move. But ... we are together. That is ... all we have."

#Transformation Faction Ghost — "Name-Forgotten One"

#Profile

  • True name: forgotten. In life, one resident of Kitamiyama.
  • Current form: humanoid made of flame. Fixed in a smiling face, dancing in the central plaza.
  • Grade: minion-grade.
  • Residence: city central plaza.

#Narrative Identity

An ordinary resident of the transformation faction. He has no name, no face, and no concrete history. He is "someone who could have been one of us." That is exactly what he means — transformation erases the individual. This ghost is the proof.

#Personality and Speech

  • Voice: bright. Mixed with laughter.
  • Speech: cannot speak in past tense. Everything is present tense and eternity.
  • Emotion: outwardly cheerful. But once he stops — he does not know who he was.

#Interaction With PCs

SituationResponse
Offers to join the PCsHolds out a hand. A burning hand.
PCs ask, "who were you?"Stops. Cannot answer. Cries while laughing. The most terrible scene.
PCs refuseNot hurt. Returns to dancing.

"Our king is merciful. He will accept you."

"Who were you? (if asked) ... I ... I ... do not know. I ... (tears, laughter)"

#Surviving Drifted Mixed-Blood — Uta(唄)

#Profile

  • True name: Uta(唄). She looks 7~8 years old, but her actual age is unknown (flow is stopped inside the Spirit Realm).
  • Origin: recently (several years before the PCs' era), another small domain drifted into Kitamiyama city. Most died. Only Uta survived.
  • Current state: drifted mixed-blood — after several years in the Spirit Realm, her body is already half close to a Spirit Realm being. Her skin is extremely pale. Her pupils reflect firelight.
  • Residence: 5th floor of the keep. The Great Dharma King cares for her "like a daughter."

#Narrative Identity

She is the mirror of those who will come after the PCs. If the PCs fail here and now — another domain in the future will drift, and one child from among them may be in this room. Uta is the face of that possibility.

She is also proof of the Great Dharma King's Humanity. He did not burn this child. He read books to her. The last Humanity a transformed king can show.

#Personality and Speech

  • Voice: a child. But a child who knows adult sadness.
  • Speech: simple. But sharp. She immediately understands, "you came to stop the king."
  • Emotion: calm. Complicated feelings toward the Great Dharma King (fear + pity + gratitude).

#Interaction With PCs (4.4 Scene)

"The king treats me like a daughter. He is not scary. He does not burn me. He reads books to me. And sometimes he cries."

"You came to meet the king. You came to stop him. Please stop him. So he does not cry."

"The king stopped crying. Thank you." — just before descent

#Data

  • Wounds 1 (cannot fight)
  • Check modifiers: Prophecy +3, Perception +2, Survival (Spirit Realm) +5
  • When returned to the domain: domain resident +1, but a "Spirit Realm pulse" reaction check is required 1 time per week (onmyoji caution)

#Loyal Retainer Haibi(灰火)

#Profile

  • True name: forgotten (self-erasure of his own name by his choice).
  • Status in life: close-guard warrior of Kitami Masanobu. One who was beside the lord at the time of transformation.
  • Current form: human silhouette. The outline of armor is drawn in ash.
  • Grade: veteran-grade.
  • Residence: corner of Atobe Reika's shrine. Has not moved from one place for 200 years.

#Narrative Identity

He belonged to the transformation faction, but regrets his own choice. For 200 years before Reika's ash, he erased his own name — made his own identity into ash. That is his atonement.

He is the PCs' guide. From Act 2 through Act 4, he accompanies the PCs and explains the city's geography and history, and the meaning of the three streets.

#Ash of Atobe Reika(安戸部 霊華)

#Profile

  • True name: Atobe Reika. In her 50s in life. A 10th-dan onmyoji of Kitamiyama.
  • Current form: ash outline (kneeling posture, hand raising a talisman). Can speak.
  • Grade: minion-grade (ash state). However, her knowledge and spiritual authority are lord-grade.
  • Residence: center of the western shrine's main sanctuary.

#Narrative Identity

She was the leader of the return faction. She opposed transformation, was bound by the lord, and burned herself for the Barrier. But her sacrifice saved only a few, and the domain chose transformation. She is the incarnation of failed self-sacrifice.

But 200 years later, the PCs came. Her sacrifice finally gains meaning — by becoming a passage that conveys the truth of the seal to the PCs.
