#3 Outsider Classes + Commoner Alternate Techniques
Contents
#§ Scent — The Outsider's Options
The 3 outsider classes (modern person, heroic spirit, celestial) and the 1 Commoner of the 1st expansion are handled specially by the structure of the core and the 1st expansion. This document adds alternate techniques to each, but does not break the core protocols (Adaptation slot compatibility, NPC-only, and so on).
#§ Law — 4-Class Alternate Techniques
#Modern Person (現代人, Modern)
Core: 04-32-outsider-modern.md | original role: staff officer/analysis

| 9 | Refusal of Era Adaptation (時代適應拒否) | [aptitude] | — | reinforces the core B route. bonus while maintaining modern knowledge | homeland Bound |
Design note: complies with the outsider class Adaptation slot protocol. The 5-dan "Scientific Explanation" is the modern person's unique strength.
#Heroic Spirit (英靈, Heroic Spirit)
Core: 04-33-outsider-heroic-spirit.md | original role: sacred-object warrior
| Dan | Alternate Technique | Type | Energy | Effect | Branch Direction |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| 9 | Back to One's Rightful Seat (本來の座へ) | [Kata] | — | 1 time per session, return the resonant sacred object to its owner in one's own era (ending route) | return |
Design note: makes the heroic spirit's "sense of estrangement" narrative rule. The 9-dan "Back to One's Rightful Seat" is an ending choice. Companionship synergy with a modern PC (the core party dynamic).
#Celestial (天人, Celestial)
Core: 04-34-outsider-celestial.md | original role: anti-yoma special effect
| Dan | Alternate Technique | Type | Energy | Effect | Branch Direction |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Celestial Speech (天上語) | [aptitude] | — | celestial/divine NPC Negotiation +2 | diplomacy |

| 9 | Celestial Return Rite (天上歸還儀式) | [Kata] | — | 1 time per session, attempt a celestial return (ending or failure) | return |
Design note: makes the celestial's descent/return narrative rule. The 9-dan "Return Rite" is an ending turning point. Session 0 consensus recommended.
#Commoner (民衆, Commoner) — 1st Expansion NPC-Only
Core: none. 1st expansion ex1/99-appendix/99-06-commoner-class.md | role: an ordinary resident, NPC-only
⚠ PC selection impossible. These alternate techniques are a narrative option for the GM to grant to NPCs, and keep the 1st-expansion Commoner protocol (treated as Mob/Minion when mobilized to the battlefield, narrative operation of general techniques) as-is.
| Dan | Alternate Technique | Type | Energy | Effect (narrative) | Branch Direction |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Family Bond (家族の絆) | [aptitude] | — | the NPC temporarily rises Mob→Minion grade in a family-defense situation | family protection |
| 3 | Village Chronicler (村の記錄者) | [aptitude] | — | provides domain narrative information (a morale-related NPC of 1st-expansion 01-06) | record |
| 5 | Leader Quality (指導者素質) | [aptitude] | — | a narrative trigger that can transition a Commoner NPC from Minion→Veteran grade | transition guidance |
| 7 | War Memory (戰爭記憶) | [aptitude] | — | Fear immunity from past war experience (narrative sturdiness) | sturdiness |
| 9 | Legend of the Commoners (民衆の傳說) | [aptitude] | — | that NPC becomes a legend of the domain. morale +1 permanent | legend-making |
Design note: strictly complies with the 1st-expansion Commoner's narrative-operation principle (narrative branching, not numerical correction). All effects are at the GM's narrative discretion. Numerical-correction expressions are forbidden — "rises Mob→Minion when ~" is an extension of the 1st-expansion Commoner protocol's "dual treatment of battlefield unit grade," not a +N to a value.
#§ Design Perspective
- 3 outsider classes × 5 = 15 alternate techniques. Commoner 5 = 20 total.
- Complying with the outsider Adaptation slot protocol: the gaijin too keeps the core protocol as-is — effects such as "[Kata]/[stance]/[upkeep] Energy +1 on Adaptation slot switch" are maintained.
- Strictly Commoner NPC-only: PCs absolutely cannot select it. Positioned as a GM tool.
- Making ending routes rule: the heroic spirit's 9-dan "Back to One's Rightful Seat" and the celestial's 9-dan "Celestial Return Rite" officially support campaign ending branches.
