The core's Navigation skill has no school at all. This expansion establishes 5 kinds. The section with the highest proportion of foreign style — navigation is essentially an art that crosses borders. The core Licensed Reading the Channel / secret art Cutting the Countercurrent is replaced by new maneuvers.

#16-04-01. Wako Naval Tactics (倭寇海上戰法) — Self-Taught Style · Japanese pirates

The plundering and naval-combat art of the Sengoku-era wako. No dojo. The pirates' Self-Taught Style. Small boats, surprise attacks, melee combat.

  • Bonus: Surprise Attack plunder — on a naval surprise attack, attack +3 on the first round.
  • Restriction: regular naval battle -1. rapport with honest-trade NPCs -2.

#16-04-02. Joseon Navy (朝鮮 水軍) — Foreign Style · Joseon

Cultural origin: the navy of Joseon during the Imjin War. A naval force refined under Yi Sun-sin's command. Operation of panokseon and turtle ships.

  • Bonus: regular naval battle — in a squad-scale naval battle, attack +1, Defense +1 for the whole squad.
  • Restriction: bonus invalid when operating alone.
  • Licensed: [aptitude] Panokseon Operation: when operating 1 panokseon with squad members, squad Defense +2, attack +1.
  • Secret art: [Tactic:stance] Crane-Wing Formation (鶴翼陣): Energy 5. squad-scale. limited to 1 naval battle. squad + friendly squads attack +2, Defense +2.

#16-04-03. Ming Zheng He Style (明 鄭和式) — Foreign Style · Ming

Cultural origin: the grand-expedition fleet of Zheng He (鄭和) in the era of the Ming Yongle Emperor. Large vessels, long-distance voyages, diplomacy.

  • Bonus: long-distance voyage — immunity to getting lost on open-ocean voyages. drinking-water/provision stockpile efficiency +1.
  • Restriction: small-boat operation -1.
  • Licensed: [aptitude] Open-Ocean Navigation: immunity to getting lost on the open ocean. Navigation check +2.
  • Secret art: [non-combat action] Treasure-Ship Operation: Energy 5. 1 session. operation of a large vessel + squad Defense +3, diplomatic Bearing +2. (00-05 §13 non-combat action applies)
  • Approach: Ming origin, foreign Adaptation (Ming), or tutelage under a descendant of Zheng He.
  • Play type: long-distance open-ocean, diplomatic voyages.

#16-04-04. Portuguese Shipbuilding (Portuguese Naval) — Foreign Style · Europe

Cultural origin: the open-ocean voyages of 16~17th-century Portugal and Spain. Galleon operation, open-ocean navigation, reaching the New World.

  • Bonus: open-ocean adaptation — on an oceanic voyage, Navigation check +2, storm adaptation.
  • Restriction: no bonus for coastal voyages. Eastern sea zone -1 (no chart drawn).
  • Licensed: [aptitude] Galleon Operation: operate 1 galleon. squad Defense +2, cannon accuracy +1.
  • Secret art: [non-combat action] New-World Navigation: Energy 5. 1 week. can voyage 1000 nautical miles (about 1850km) on the open ocean in 1 week. (00-05 §13 non-combat action applies)
  • Approach: Nanban (Portugal/Spain) origin, foreign Adaptation (Nanban), or galleon tutelage.
  • Play type: open-ocean, New World exploration.

#16-04-05. Viking Sailing (Viking Sailing) — Foreign Style · Northern Europe

Cultural origin: the Norse and Danish Vikings of the 8~11th century. With small boats (longships), they operated rivers, coasts, and the open ocean alike. Both plunder and trade.

  • Bonus: multi-terrain adaptation — Navigation check +1 on rivers, coasts, and the open ocean alike.
  • Restriction: large-vessel operation -1.
  • Licensed: [aptitude] Longship Operation: operate 1 small boat. relocation +2 on rivers and coasts.
  • Secret art: [Kata] Plunder Landing: Energy 4. 1 round. sea → instant relocation to land. on the first round, squad +3, Surprise Attack check automatically succeeds.
  • Approach: Northern-European origin, foreign Adaptation (Nanban/Northern), or Viking tutelage. relies almost entirely on fictional media.
  • Play type: multi-terrain plunder, relocation.

#§ Design Perspective

  • 5-school distribution: self-taught 1 (wako) + foreign style 4 (Joseon, Ming, Portuguese, Viking). Emphasis on foreign style.
  • New Licensed/secret arts: all 5 schools are new maneuvers. The core Navigation skill is preserved.
  • Emphasis on the squad scale: 16-04-02, 03, 04 have squad-scale effects. Linked with 25-famous-squads.
  • Diverse navigation thought: plunder, regular, open-ocean, New World, multi-terrain — each with a different navigation philosophy.
