#12 School-Exclusive Gear

Holding a school License is the premise for use. Used without a License, all techniques are sealed (though it can still be used as a base weapon). Directly linked to the schools of this expansion 10~15·22(1st).

A dojo master engraves his own teaching into a single blade. Only one who grasps that blade can use that teaching. In another's hand it is merely an iron bar.

#40-04-12. Onmyoji Ritual Sword (陰陽師 儀禮劍)

  • Scent: a ritual sword used by an onmyoji for rites·Barriers. A protective talisman (護符) is attached.
  • School premise: onmyoji profession + Sorcery-school License (core or this expansion 19-01)
  • Base: katana or tanto (ritual use)
  • Restriction: ritual use. In ordinary combat, an ordinary katana.
  • Price: 80 gwan. Onmyoji main house.

#§ Usage Conventions

  • School-License sealing: used without a License, it works only as a core base weapon. All school techniques are sealed.
  • Multi-school compatibility: 1 gear = 1 school only. When a holder of another school's License uses it, it is an ordinary weapon.
  • Loss·theft: a house-bestowed or secret gear, when lost, is a breach of a house duty (Renown -1).
  • Repair: possible only at the school's main house. When repaired externally, effect is halved.

#§ Design Perspective

  • Distribution of the 12 gear: swords 5 / spears 3 / Ninjutsu 2 / Horsemanship 1 / mystic 1.
  • Direct school linkage: all depend directly on the schools of this expansion 10~15·19. Without a school License, effect is halved or none.
  • License compelled vs recommended: the gear of this section is License-compelled. The difference from the "License recommended" of 40-03 masterworks.
  • Emphasis on Foreign Schools: 7 of the 12 (40-04-03·04·05·07·08·10·11) are tied to Foreign Schools — a representation of the "exclusive touch" of this expansion's Foreign Schools.
