#Tale of the Bamboo Cutter — Kaguya-hime and the Five Treasures
Contents

Scope declaration / opt-in. This issue is an expansion of
fc04Heian Night Tales. It unfolds the Heian myth "Taketori Monogatari (竹取物語)" across one issue, and carries the five treasures, five guardian yoma, Kaguya-hime, and Elixir of Immortality that arise from it as data. The plot and historical grounding belong to the real monogatari (Reference), while the atmospheric narration is kept Fiction-Only. All new data (treasures, yoma, celestial stats, elixir) is a Variant ofco-99-01, and is valid only when a table adopts it. Before adoption it has no effect on the baseline, and whenever a number conflicts withco, co always takes precedence. Strong data (the celestial Kaguya, the elixir, divine-treasure-class treasures) states GM approval recommended in the text.
#Brief — What This Issue Is
Light shone from within a single joint of bamboo. When the old man cut it open, a child the size of a palm sat there. Within three months the child grew so radiant no one could look at her directly. Five noble suitors proposed, and she demanded each of the five bring her a treasure not of this world. All failed. She refused even the Emperor's courtship. And on the full moon of the eighth month, envoys descended from the moon — and took her away.
"Taketori Monogatari" is the oldest monogatari in Japan. fc04 Heian Night Tales noted this story as a descent/ascension motif of the celestial (天人, co-04-07-34) (the "Kaguya archetype" in the class guide). This issue unfolds that brief mention into a full volume.
There are four threads.
- The Tale — the plot of the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, from discovery to ascension. (
01) - The Five Treasures — the masterworks and divine treasures the five suitors could not obtain. (
02) - The Five Guardians — the 5 yoma and beings that guard the treasures. (
03) - Kaguya and the Elixir — the stats of the celestial Kaguya-hime and the Elixir of Immortality. (
04)
#Commentary — One-Line Thesis
"The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter is a story about 'what cannot be obtained.' The five treasures, Kaguya, immortality — the moment they are grasped, they become counterfeit, depart, or are burned."

#Production Notice
This issue is Issue No. 5 of the Konsei Reiyotan zn (one-shot) series, and is an expansion of fc04 Heian Night Tales. The plot of "Taketori Monogatari," the names of the five treasures, and the origin of Mount Fuji are based on a real Japanese classic, but the game numbers of the treasures, the guardian yoma, the celestial stats, and the elixir data are fiction of this setting. All numbers were designed atop the check formulas, tags, and tiers of the canonical co-07 masterworks/divine treasures, co-04-07-34 celestial, and co-08-02 yoma compendium. No new skills or new attributes were invented.
