#Scent — Even Hell Has a Sky

The sky of hell is not a sky.

The sky of Reviving Hell is gray. There are no clouds. Yet rain falls. Rain mixed with ash. It does not flay the skin. It merely soaks everything gray. When you open your eyes at dawn, the rain that fell through the night has pooled at your feet. Drink it and it tastes of nothing. Wash your face and yesterday's face washes away.

The sky of Black Rope Hell is iron. The clouds are chains. Occasionally one low cloud descends to the ground as-is. A shower of chains. A gust of iron. When chains are growing underfoot, it is better not to look up.

The sky of Screaming Hell is screaming. The clouds are invisible, but weeping is audible. When rain falls, it is hot. When hail falls, it is acid. When fog settles, there are hundreds of faces inside it.

The sky of Shonetsu Hell is fire. By day the sun is black. By night the moon is red. Ash falls like snow. Occasionally a single pillar of fire drives into the ground from the sky. Like a blade driven in.

The sky of Avici Hell is absent. Look up and there is only the feeling that something is there. Wind blows but there is no sound. Rain falls but clothes do not get wet.

These five tables are the today of those five skies.

#Synthesis — Weather Is Narrative

Hell's weather is not a simple numerical modifier.

Gray Rain is the scene's atmosphere. Clothes soaked in ash start to fall apart after two days, and the PC notices their own face turning gray.

Chain Rain is a threat. A single thin chain has grown around the ankle. Touch it and it rusts. In the night's dream, that chain climbs to the throat.

The Gale of Names is a shaking of existence. One of the squad members forgets their own name. When the PC calls, they turn around. But they ask, "Who am I?"

The GM uses weather as narrative. Numbers come after.

Every hell has a different sky, and every sky has a different today. Five skies define the PC's day with five d10s.
