#Scent — Another Face of the Crystal Called a Core

A yoma's core is usually ordinary.

A Minion's core is fingertip-sized and gray. A Veteran's core is fist-sized and holds a slight warmth. An Elite's core must be cradled in both hands and trembles. A Lord's core is head-sized and drinks all the light in the room.

Usually. But the longer one fights in the Spirit Realm, the more strange cores get mixed in.

Two yoma that died together, their cores melting and fusing. One that burned too long in Scorching Heat Hell. One that belonged to a being who survived seven revivals in Reviving Hell. One that belonged to a Name-Lost One in Avici Hell. One that someone chipped and carved beforehand. One that was buried with a lord's corpse, still lodged in the chest.

These cores overturn the calculations of normal cores.

You expected Barrier HP +15, but it becomes Barrier HP +20. In exchange, spoilage is delayed by one week. It adds Exposure +2. It explodes mid-processing. A certain woman keeps appearing in the user's dreams.

This table is those 100 upheavals.

#Law — Roll Protocol

#Basic Roll

  • Roll frequency: Not rolled under normal circumstances. 1 time by default immediately after combat with an Elite-grade yoma or above.
  • Open roll: Can be rolled openly. Appraisal stage before processing.

#Variant Core Processing Principles

In addition to the processing rules in the main Core Economy:

  • Variant cores cannot be processed as normal cores
  • Appraisal Target Number +2 and above, processing Target Number +3
  • Spoilage speed differs (when specified)
  • On failure, the harm is greater than with normal cores

#Application — Processing Guidelines for Variant Cores

#Appraisal Stage

  1. Basic Appraisal: Target Number 11 (normal), Target Number 13 (suspected variant)
  2. Variant Appraisal: Target Number 13~16 (appraiser, diviner, main-book processing house)
  3. On failure: Wrong information. May be discovered during processing.

#Variant Core Usage Cautions

  • Spoilage: Normal cores last 2 weeks. Variants are ±1 week (when specified).
  • Exposure: Specified Exposure persists even after processing is complete. Report to the lord.
  • Processor damage: Extreme variants deal damage to the processor themselves. Severe injury on Target Number failure.
  • Lord's Judgment: Use of variant cores requires the lord's sanction. May be brought before the retainer council.

#Synthesis — The Economy One Handful of Crystal Upends

Variant cores are not common. They appear perhaps once a month. But when they do, they change the entire week's economy.

  • A Barrier HP +5 difference changes the Barrier's fate.
  • Exposure +2 changes the user's dreams.
  • The d10 temporal disturbance event changes the following week.

The GM watches the PC who uses a variant core. A variant core is not a tool — it is a condition.

A normal core is calculation. A variant core is story. One handful of crystal laid in both hands pierces the following week's fate.
