#Geography Schools Collection, 4 Kinds (first establishment)

No Geography-skill schools exist in the core. This expansion newly establishes 4 kinds. It replaces the core's newly established maneuvers for the Licensed Point Out Terrain / secret art Cut the Lay of the Land.

Core 03-09 Non-combat Check Target Number 11-17 + 04-01 Skills Geography applied. This expansion adds no new Target Number table. For detailed mapping see 00-05 §14.

#§ Scent — A Hundred Strands of the Land

The land is not of one shape. The same mountain is seen differently by a feng shui master, an astronomer, and a cartographer. It is not that one discipline finds one answer, but that several disciplines find the several answers of one mountain.

#§ Law — 4 Schools

#17-03-01. Feng Shui Geography (風水式地理) — Famous School · China·Joseon·Japan

The thought of feng shui (風水) and qi-study (氣學). Judges the fortune of terrain by the flow of mountains, rivers, wind, and water. Used for graves, houses, and battlefields alike.

Addition: feng shui check — judging the fortune of terrain·house siting·grave sites·battlefield positions +2.
Constraint: study of feng shui thought recommended — unschooled PC -1.
Licensed: [aptitude] Feng Shui Intuition: terrain feng shui check +3·automatically identifies fortune.
Secret art: [Kata] Cut the Lay of the Land (enhanced): Energy 4. 1 session. Precisely analyzes terrain feng shui within a 1-ri radius + recommends battlefield positions (in combat, squad +1).
Approach: feng shui master class (04-08) or tutelage under a feng shui scholar. Play type: feng shui·battlefield positioning.

#17-03-02. Astronomical Geography (天文式地理) — Foreign Style · Ming·Arab

Cultural origin: astronomical schools such as Ming-era astronomers and the Arab al-Raghustari. Measures Earth's latitude and longitude by the constellations and planets. Used for Navigation and map-making.

Addition: astronomical check — position·time check using constellations at night +3.
Constraint: limited to night·clear weather. No cloudy-day·daytime bonus.
Licensed: [aptitude] Constellation Position: position·time check by the constellations at night +3.
Secret art: [Kata] Navigational Astronomy: Energy 4. 1 session. Calculates accurate latitude·longitude by the constellations at night + immune to getting lost in open-sea Navigation.
Approach: Ming·Arab origin, foreign Adaptation, or tutelage under an astronomer. Play type: astronomy·open-sea Navigation.

#17-03-03. Nanban Cartography (南蠻圖學) — Foreign Style · Europe

Cultural origin: European cartography of the 16th–17th centuries. Mercator projection·accurate sea charts. The scholarly foundation for reaching the New World.

Addition: accurate maps — Geography check +3·immune to getting lost when holding a map.
Constraint: no bonus when not holding a map.
Licensed: [aptitude] Precision Map Study: Geography +3 when holding a map·can make a map in 1 session.
Secret art: [Kata] New World Projection: Energy 5. 1 session. Calculates precise coordinates for open-sea Navigation + safe arrival at the New World.
Approach: Nanban origin, foreign Adaptation (Nanban), or tutelage under a cartography scholar. Play type: accurate maps·open-sea Navigation.

#17-03-04. Self-Taught Cartography (自己流地圖作成) — Self-Taught Style · origin-independent

A scholar·traveler who draws maps by their own footsteps, with no dojo and no tutelage. Accuracy is lacking, but within their own area they are well-versed.

Addition: own area — limited to an area resided in for 5+ sessions. Geography check +3 in that area (permanent).
Constraint: outside areas -1.
Licensed: [aptitude] Map of One's Own Area: Geography +3·automatic wayfinding in a familiar area.
Secret art: [Kata] Area Scouting: Energy 3. 1 session. Accurately analyzes a familiar area within a 5-ri radius + automatically identifies ambushes·traps.
Approach: Self-Taught Style. 5+ sessions of residence in one area + self-made maps recommended. Play type: mastery of one's own area.

#§ Design Perspective

Distribution of 4 schools: famous 1 + foreign 2 + self 1 — a balance of the 4 types (no secret transmission).
Diversity of thought: feng shui (Eastern) / astronomy (science) / cartography (West) / Self-Taught Style (experience) — the same Geography but different thought.
Environmental specialization: feng shui (land)·astronomy (night)·cartography (open sea)·Self-Taught Style (familiar region).
Newly established Licensed·secret arts: the core's newly established Point-Out-Terrain·Cut-the-Lay-of-the-Land maneuvers.
