#Perception Schools Collection, 4 Kinds (first establishment)

No Perception-skill schools exist in the core. This expansion newly establishes 4 kinds. It replaces the core's newly established maneuvers for the Licensed Catch Presence / secret art Spirit Sight.

§ Check Procedure: Perception = a single skill integrating sight·hearing·smell (core 04-01). When used separately (hearing only·smell only), a GM-discretion -1~-2 penalty. The check itself applies the core 03-09 non-combat Target Number 11-17. Mapping policy: 00-05 §14.

#§ Scent — A Hundred Strands of Hearing and Seeing

The eye sees in one direction only. But the ear and the nose and the sense (感) see in all directions. Perception is the art of infinitely extending one's own senses.

#§ Law — 4 Schools

#17-04-01. Auditory Orthodoxy (聽覺正統) — Self-Taught Style · origin-independent

Judges an enemy's position·type·movement by hearing alone. No dojo. Self-Taught Style. Learned by swordsmen who lost their sight, blind scholars, and ninjutsu practitioners.

Addition: hearing enhancement — Perception +3 outside the field of view.
Constraint: visual environment (darkness·fog) irrelevant. But interference from the auditory environment (noise·flowing water) -2.
Licensed: [stance] Auditory Stance: Energy 1. During the stance, Perception +3 outside the field of view·can identify footsteps·breathing.
Secret art: [Kata] Constant Hearing: Energy 4. 1 session. Auditory position estimation within a 1-ri radius + can fight even while sightless (-1 only).
Approach: Self-Taught Style. 5+ sessions of auditory training recommended. Play type: auditory swordsman·blind.

#17-04-02. Olfactory Orthodoxy (嗅覺正統) — Secret Transmission · origin unknown

Identifies people·yoma·objects by smell. Secret transmission of mountain hunter families. Urban vigilante groups also use it.

Addition: smell enhancement — smell check +3·identifies a target's position·type.
Constraint: strong-odor environment (market·stable) -2.
Licensed: [aptitude] Olfactory Intuition: smell check +3·identifies target type within a 1-ri radius.
Secret art: [Kata] Tracking Smell: Energy 3. 1 session. Can track 1 target's trail by smell for 1 ri (mountain·plains only).
Approach: secret-transmission tutelage — adoption into a hunter family, or tutelage under a vigilante group. Play type: olfactory tracking.

#17-04-03. Qi Sensing (氣運感知) — Foreign Style · Daoist·Yoga·Sufi

Cultural origin: the shared thought of Daoist internal cultivation·Indian Yoga·Sufi meditation. Senses the "qi (氣)" of people·yoma. Estimates an enemy's intent·strength·true identity.

Addition: qi sensing — judging an enemy's strength·intent +3.
Constraint: cannot sense the inanimate·beings without qi (Western golems, etc.).
Licensed: [stance] Qi Stance: Energy 1. During the stance, automatically identifies the strength of all enemies within the field of view.
Secret art: [Kata] Qi Precision: Energy 4. 1 session. Precisely identifies the position·type·strength of all living beings within a 1-ri radius.
Approach: tutelage under Daoist·Yoga·Sufi. Foreign Adaptation (Sinic·Indian·Arab). Play type: qi·yoma sensing.

#17-04-04. Thought Sensing (思念感知) — Secret Transmission · onmyoji·Prophecy school

Senses an opponent's thought (思念) — the surface layer of intent·emotion·memory. Tutelage in onmyoji secret transmission·Prophecy schools. Used for politics·diplomacy·Inquiry.

Addition: thought sensing — judging an opponent's Deceit·sincerity during a 1 vs 1 conversation +3.
Constraint: limited to face-to-face 1 vs 1. Cannot sense a crowd·long distances.
Licensed: [stance] Thought Stance: Energy 2. During the stance, in a 1 vs 1 conversation, judge an opponent's Deceit +3·identify sincerity.
Secret art: [Kata] Thought Precision: Energy 5. 1 session. During a 1 vs 1 conversation, accurately estimate 1 of an opponent's surface thoughts (GM discretion).
Approach: onmyoji class, or tutelage under a Prophecy school (19-05). Play type: politics·diplomacy·Inquiry.
