Contents

Divine rite detail, blank mirror, bell, cord, and folded cloth arranged on white paper, sacred but restrained, no marks on any ritual item.

Canon — fc01 added entries. This document does not duplicate anything already in co or ex2. The Three Sacred Treasures are in co-07-03-divine-artifacts.md, the Exotic Sacred Objects are in co-07-04-exotic-artifacts.md, and the Sorcery and Exorcism spells are in ex2-35-spell-system/.

Data format of this document:

  • Divine Treasures: follows the co-07-03 / co-07-04 format — blessing/curse [aptitude], [masterwork]/[devotion] techniques, the check formula, limits.
  • Sorcery spells: follows the ex2-35 format — type, Energy, Target Number, range/target, effect, failure, Divinity perk.

#Scent — Borrowed Power Must Be Repaid

There are two ways for a god's power to enter a human's hands for a moment. To receive it as a Divine Treasure (神器), or to call it through Sorcery (呪術).

A Divine Treasure is a thing. A sword, a jewel, a bow, paper. A shard of a god dwells within it, and while a human holds it in hand, they can borrow and use that shard.

Sorcery is a sound or a gesture. Call the right words at the right moment, and a god lends an ear for a while.

"Borrowed power must be repaid. Otherwise you cannot borrow it the next time." — An onmyoji saying

#Law — Principles of Inclusion (Canon)

  • Divine Treasures and Sorcery already in the main line (co) or in ex2 are not redefined in this document. Only referenced when needed.
  • The entries in this document are linked to the fc01 Divinity system. Linked effects are noted when present with that god's Domain.
  • Each entry includes the source god, the acquisition condition, and the side effect/curse.

#Part 1: Divine Treasures (神器) — 5 Items

Format: per co-07-03-divine-artifacts.md. Blessing/curse [aptitude], [masterwork]/[devotion] techniques, the check formula, devotion condition.

#1. Ikutachi (生太刀) — Okuninushi's Sword of Life [Divine Treasure]

Ikutachi life-blade on cloth, a tachi whose edge sheds a few sparse line-sprouts of new growth; clean silhouette, mei blank

The healing authority by which Okuninushi was brought back to life twice, crystallized into the form of a sword. The energy of life dwells in the blade, so that even a cut wound heals.

  • Weapon type: uchigatana
  • Blessing [aptitude]: Blade of Healing — a wound inflicted with this sword recovers automatically at the end of combat (nullifying the opponent's expenditure of Wounds). Also, the bearer gets +2 to Medicine and healing checks.
  • Curse [aptitude]: The Price of Life — at the end of every combat, the bearer takes Wounds -1. The sword takes the bearer's energy one breath at a time. (Reference: the same structure as the "Dragon's Thirst" precedent in co-07-02.)
TechniqueEnergyCheckEffectLimit
[masterwork] Return of Life (生命返還)42d10 + Courage + Swordsmanship +2 >= Defense2 Wounds + 1 ally in the same zone gains Wounds +1.1 round
[devotion] Hand of Izumo (出雲の手)5automatic1 incapacitated ally in the same zone → revived at 2 Wounds. Reproduces Okuninushi's "brought back twice" authority.1 per session

Devotion condition: Way of Mystery (Truth). One who serves Okuninushi's mercy. Within the Izumo field, devotion technique Energy -1.

Acquisition: can be taken over only at the main sanctuary of Izumo Grand Shrine. Okuninushi's permission (the devotion condition met + the GM's agreement on the scenario).

#2. Kusetsu Hoju (九節宝珠) — Inari's Transformation Jewel [Divine Treasure]

A jewel inscribed with nine knots. Commonly depicted in pictures of a fox holding it in its mouth. One who bears this jewel can borrow the fox's art of transformation — at the price of Inari's foxes watching them forever.

  • Accessory: a necklace or pouch item
  • Blessing [aptitude]: Mask of Transformation — +2 to Disguise, concealment, and Deceit checks. 1 die of advantage on commerce and Negotiation checks (one die may be rerolled).
  • Curse [aptitude]: The Fox's Gaze — each time the holder tells an obvious lie, roll d100: on 01–20 they are found out by Inari (the next round their appearance is marked with a temporary fox tail).
TechniqueEnergyCheckEffectLimit
[masterwork] Triple Visage (三面相)32d10 + Presence + Disguise >= 11changes appearance for 1 session (1 axis of sex, age, or status may be changed). Humans only.1 per combat
[devotion] Hundred-Faced Fox (百面狐)5automaticinstantly transform into fox form (a small animal's body). For 1 round, detection difficulty +5. Movement +2 zones.1 per session

Devotion condition: Way of Mystery (Truth or Demon). One who makes regular offerings at an Inari shrine. If the Three Ways and Six Hearts do not match, when using a devotion technique there is a risk of the appearance being permanently fixed (d100: 01–05).

Acquisition: 3 years of accumulated annual offerings at an Inari shrine + a special scenario condition.

#3. Yasakani no Magatama Replica (八尺瓊勾玉 複製) — Amaterasu's Lineage Jewel [Divine Treasure]

The genuine article is recorded as one of the Three Sacred Treasures in co-07-03-divine-artifacts.md#2-yasakani-no-magatama. This entry is a replica lent to a special shrine for a single generation, with 1/10 the power of the genuine article.

  • Accessory: a necklace
  • Blessing [aptitude]: Testimony of the Ancestors — automatically succeeds checks concerning lineage and family line (1 per session). When an ancestral heroic spirit is within 1 zone, spiritual conversation is possible.
  • Curse [aptitude]: The Fate of Wear — when a year passes, roll d100: on 01–20 the replica wears down 1 step (the blessing effect is halved → and then disappears). If the bearer loses consciousness in combat, a wear check is made at once.
TechniqueEnergyCheckEffectLimit
[masterwork] Proof of Lineage (血統證據)2automaticmakes 1 lineage and family-line check an automatic success + officially recognized as truth. Decisive evidence in a kingship or succession dispute.1 per session
[devotion] Call of the Ancestor (祖先の呼び)4automaticcalls 1 designated ancestral heroic spirit for 1 round for 1 piece of counsel (the GM provides 1 hint). Only when the spirit is cooperative.1 per session

Devotion condition: Way of Mystery (Truth). One who confirms the lineage of the imperial house, high-ranking samurai, or a hereditary miko family. A non-lineage holder makes 1 wear check of the curse at once when using a devotion technique.

Acquisition: an official loan from the imperial house, Ise Grand Shrine, or a major national shrine. Limited to a single generation (30–50 years), returned thereafter.

#4. Manara's Bow (麻那羅の弓) — Hachiman's Black Bow [Divine Treasure]

Hachiman's black bow upright on a stand, a deep solid-black silhouette against white, a single arrow not yet drawn

A black bow. The string is twisted from the mane of the divine horse (神馬) of Konsei. An arrow that leaves this bow pierces the wind — but the string snaps in the moment of defeat.

  • Weapon type: yumi (wakyu, longbow)
  • Blessing [aptitude]: The Accuracy of the Divine Archer — +2 to Archery attack checks. Range is 2 times the standard (zone +1).
  • Curse [aptitude]: The Loser's Taboo — in the moment that the bearer themselves or an allied squad leader is incapacitated in a combat the holder is part of, the string snaps (the bow cannot be used until the next session, requiring a re-offering at Usa Shrine).
TechniqueEnergyCheckEffectLimit
[masterwork] Piercing Single Arrow (貫通一矢)32d10 + Courage + Archery +2 >= Defense2 Wounds + [Pierce all] (pierces armor and shields).1 round
[devotion] Hachiman's Decree (八幡宣告)52d10 + Courage + Archery +3 >= Defense1 designated enemy takes 3 Wounds + a Mental Save (on a failed 2d10 + Courage + Fighting Spirit >= 13, cannot act for 1 round). Unlimited range (the same battlefield). "Hachiman has carved a name into this arrow."1 per session

Devotion condition: Way of Rites (Loyalty). A descendant of a warrior family, or one who has formed an official relationship with a Hachiman shrine. Limited to a case where one has gone through a prayer rite at a Hachiman shrine before going to battle.

Acquisition: handed over only at the succession ceremony in the annex of Usa Shrine. Only a single bow across the generations — the next succession occurs only when the inheritor dies or retires.

#5. Gungnir Fragment Dagger (Gungnir Fragment) — Odin's Oath Blade [Divine Treasure]

Odin's spear "Gungnir" is recorded in ex2-45-foreign-relics. This entry is a dagger made from a fragment of it. An oath sworn with this dagger holds binding force of its own.

  • Weapon type: tanto (dagger, Outside origin)
  • Blessing [aptitude]: The Wisdom of the Runes — +2 to Wisdom checks involving riddles and hidden knowledge. A die fixed (a designated value among 0–9) on Foreign Language and archaic-language checks, 1/day.
  • Curse [aptitude]: The Weight of the Oath — for each 1 oath sworn with this dagger, the dagger's weight goes +1 step. Once 4 or more accumulate, it is too heavy to lift (cannot be re-forged).
TechniqueEnergyCheckEffectLimit
[masterwork] Rune Oath (Rune Oath)32d10 + Wisdom + Sorcery >= 11forms an oath between two persons. The one who breaks it takes Wounds -3 (at once) + 1 irrecoverable defilement. Established only when both oath-takers are conscious.1 per session
[devotion] Odin's Eye (Odin's Eye)5automaticfor 1 round, automatically sees through a designated person's sincerity and lies. Sees in advance the result of that person's next 1 check (the future Odin saw).1 per session

Devotion condition: Foreign Adaptation feat: Norse Culture or Master of Sinology (versed in Norse lore). See the path to understanding Exotic Sacred Objects. Attenuation within Japan applies — in a region with no Norse shrine, devotion technique Energy +1.

Acquisition: a merchant of the northern trade routes (Siberia, Russia). Or the wreckage of a shipwrecked Norse vessel. Extremely rare.

#Part 2: Sorcery Spells — 7 Items (fc01 Additions)

Format: per ex2-35-spell-system. Type, Energy, Target Number, range/target, effect, failure, Divinity perk.

This section does not replace the ex2-35 Sorcery list. This supplement holds only the unique spells that link directly with the Divinity (神性) system.

Learning condition: each spell requires a Three Ways and Six Hearts state matching the faith in question + a miko, onmyoji, or monk license (3 points or more).

#fc01-R-01. The Art of Kotodama (言霊)

  • Type: [form]
  • Energy: 2 / Target Number: 10
  • Range/target: 1 target in 1 zone (a thing, a person, or a check result)

Effect: a semantic intervention in one check result. One of the following three — (1) give the result already rolled an interpretation of "fortunately" and choose the favorable side (e.g., a 3/6 result → interpreted in the ally's favor as "the sword points to 3, the shield to 6"), (2) declare "it does not — " within the Domain's range (e.g., "this sword does not break" → the breakage check automatically fails), (3) declare to an enemy "it cannot but — " (e.g., "that one flees" → the flight-tendency check is favorable). Changing a result outside the Domain is forbidden.

Failure: the words crumble. Energy is spent + -1 to all checks that round.

Divinity perk: if holding a shard of Amaterasu's "Weaving" or Konohanasakuya's "Flower" Domain, Energy -1. Kotodama effect duration +1 round.

Note: with false intent there is no effect + only Energy expenditure occurs.

#fc01-R-02. The Rite of Kamigakari (神懸かり)

  • Type: [upkeep] → [stance]
  • Energy: 3+3 (split) / Target Number: 13 (2d10 + Courage + Fighting Spirit, the caster on self)
  • Range/target: the caster themselves
  • Attack category: self-target (mental save)

Effect: prepare on the first round (talisman, offering, petition), trigger on the next round. If the entrusting to a designated god succeeds, for 1 session a miko may temporarily use 1 of that god's Divine Authority (the effect of a rank 1 Divinity shard). During the entrusting, the miko loses consciousness — the god speaks by borrowing the miko's mouth.

Failure: when 2d10 + Courage + Fighting Spirit fails, a temporary collapse of the mind. For that session, Negotiation, Bribery, and Agitation checks are impossible + a re-check of 2d10 + Courage + Fighting Spirit at the start of the next session (Target Number 11).

Divinity perk: if the miko is dan 7 or above, the Courage save Target Number is -2. When cast at that god's main or branch shrine, Energy -2.

Taboo: casting it twice or more in the same session is forbidden. Consecutive entrusting to different gods is forbidden.

#fc01-R-03. The Rite of Divine Contract (神契)

  • Type: [upkeep]
  • Energy: 4 / Target Number: 12
  • Range/target: the caster themselves + 2 witnesses (1 on the god's side + 1 on the human side)

Effect: a 1-lull procedure at a shrine. On success, permanently hold a rank 1–2 Divinity shard of that god (a miniature of 1 Domain, with 1 daily Divine Authority). The contract terms are expressed as prohibitions ("do not lie," "do not harm a woman," and so on). On violating a term, the shard is reclaimed at once + Wounds -3 + the acquisition of a "1 instance of the god's grudge" state (a GM's-discretion penalty).

Failure: the contract is not established. For 1 week the caster may not enter a shrine of that god's lineage.

Divinity perk: if a samurai of dan 5 or above + a matching Way of Rites (Loyalty) Three Ways and Six Hearts, automatic success. Below dan 5 there is no means of recovery if it is broken (permanent defilement).

Termination: dissolves automatically on the contractor's death or the loss of the main shrine. Artificial termination is impossible.

#fc01-R-04. The Spellwork of Misogi (禊)

  • Type: [upkeep]
  • Energy: 3 / Target Number: 10
  • Range/target: self or 1 adjacent body
  • Attack category: [Incorporeal] attack (removes curse and tatari defilement — own-side target, the Exorcism exemption table does not apply)

Effect: immerse in a clean water source (a river, waterfall, or the sea) for 1 lull. Remove 1 instance of defilement, curse, or tatari pollution. Defiled equipment and clothing must be discarded for it to be established. With a holder of an Izanagi shard, or with an Izanagi-line miko in attendance, 2 instances of effect.

Failure: no purification. The slot is spent. The defilement remains.

Divinity perk: if holding an Izanagi shard (Divinity 1–5), Target Number -4. When cast within the field of the Kumano Sanzan, Target Number -2, effect +1 instance.

Note: if the main-line co has purification rules, those take priority. This spell is the expansion option of a Divinity-Domain-based removal.

#fc01-R-05. The Prayer of Offering (奉献祈り)

  • Type: [form]
  • Energy: 1 / Target Number: automatic
  • Range/target: a shrine, kamidana, or Lesser/Minor God offering site within 1 zone

Effect: spend 1 offering item (one of water, rice, sake, a flower, or a coin). Immediately recover 1 use of the Lesser God or Minor God Divine Authority of that offering site. 1 per round.

Failure: none (automatically established, but ineffective against a target of Great God or above).

Divinity perk: if holding a miko or monk license, the effect range extends to all Lesser and Minor God offering sites within the same zone. A holder of a priestly lineage may have a rank 1–2 Divinity shard respond for a while (GM's discretion).

#fc01-R-06. The Shimenawa Barrier (注連縄結界)

  • Type: [upkeep] → [stance]
  • Energy: 3+2 (preparation) / Target Number: 10
  • Range/target: 1 entire zone or 1 designated object

Effect: encircle a zone or object with a shimenawa made of rice straw, cotton thread, and purifying salt. After installation, it lasts 1 session. The installed zone or object gives -3 to the approach and passage checks of defiled and tatari beings. When installed in a place where a gate-god or boundary-god authority is already laid, 2 times the effect.

Failure: the Barrier is not formed. Only the rice straw and salt are consumed.

Divinity perk: if holding a shard of a gate-god, Misogi, or guardian-lineage Lesser God, Energy -1. If holding a shard of Tsukuyomi's "Purity" Domain, effect duration +1 session.

Break: physically cutting the shimenawa or scattering the salt disables it at once. The one who cuts it acquires 1 defilement.

#fc01-R-07. The Installation of a Kamidana (神棚設置)

  • Type: [upkeep]
  • Energy: 4 / Target Number: 12
  • Range/target: 1 point inside a building

Effect: install a miniature shrine (kamidana) in a house or building. On success, that building is registered as a Lesser/Minor God offering site. When a cup of water and a handful of rice are offered daily, the building's Lesser God Divine Authority recovers (daily). -1 to the approach checks of defilement and yoma within the building, at all times.

Failure: the kamidana is not installed. Timber and talismans are consumed.

Divinity perk: if a Commoner profession (carpenter, artisan) + a Divinity 1 Lesser God responds, Energy -1. Only in the case where that Lesser God acknowledges the owner as belonging to it.

Break: if the kamidana is destroyed, the Lesser Gods of that building leave, and within 3 months the probability of the appearance of a tatari well, tatari hearth, and the like increases greatly (GM's discretion).

#Scent — In One Sentence

"Divine Treasures and Sorcery are 'tools by which even one who is not a god can imitate a god for a while.' Borrowed power must always be repaid."
