#What Is the Godframe
Contents
This document deals only with identity, origin, and concept. All numbers — Energy, Firepower, Wounds, Defense, the budget sum, and the like — are deferred entirely to
02and beyond. Here we speak only of what the Godframe is, why it was made, and what weight it bears.
#Brief — What the Godframe Is
The Godframe (降神太甲) is not data you can pick. It is no option ticked in a box on a character sheet, no line in a shop's wares. It is a certain possibility that shows itself on the battlefield only when a world has reached a certain extreme (極) — appearing quietly only at the tables that adopt it (a Variant of co-99-01). The canon does not force the Godframe upon anyone. Only a table that opens this issue decides, for itself, whether to raise a god of steel in the heart of its own warring age.
The day a Godframe stands on the battlefield is the day humans have admitted they can no longer beat humans with human weapons. The day they have grown desperate enough to borrow a god — another name for defeat.
When a war that should have ended with sword and teppo refuses to end, when something humans cannot stop with human hands comes crossing the fields — only then does someone wake a god in a forbidden workshop. And so the Godframe is no symbol of victory but a product of the extreme (極). That is the ground bass beneath every line of this issue: the admission that we have come this far.
#Definition — A Colossal Armor With a Divine Artifact for a Heart
The Godframe is defined by these four things.
- A colossal armor with a body of metal. A single unit slays a squad single-handed and grapples a giant yoma alone. Yet it is not at the level where infantry cannot touch it at all — it sits exactly on that line. It overwhelms, and still it has a natural predator.
- It takes a Divine Artifact as its heart (power source). A single Divine Artifact embedded in the Core is at once its drive and a bundle of special arts (
co-07-03). The heart is the Divine Artifact — if the Artifact stops, the giant stops with it. And the deeper the grade (格) of that Artifact, the deeper the force the giant pours out in a single stroke — the giant cannot move fast, but when it swings once, it swings heavy. (The details of the heart and the numbers behind that "striking force" are deferred to04·02. Here, only the concept that "the heart is the Divine Artifact.") - Two people ride it to move it. A Controller (制御者) who handles the Artifact's drive, and a Pilot (操縦士) who takes the colossal body's movement — with only one seat filled, it cannot take a single step.
- And yet it can be caught. A colossal thing moves neither fast nor often — it is Ponderous, it must cool its heart each time it closes a round, and it stakes everything on a single heart. It bears the natural predators of Ponderousness, cooling, heart-dependence, and Pierce all at once. The deeper the force it pours out in a single stroke, the duller its next step grows if it cannot cool that force. (Concrete numbers in
02.)
These four things are the whole of the Godframe. The giant that borrows a god is heavy, caged, and therefore caught.
#Terms — Names Appearing for the First Time
- Godframe (降神太甲) — the colossal Artifact War-Frame of this issue. A proper archetype name (the romanization Goshintaikō may be set alongside).
- Artifact War-Frame (神器兵裝) — the category name for colossal war-frames in general that take a Divine Artifact as their heart. The Godframe is one branch at its apex.
- Controller (制御者) · Pilot (操縦士) — the two seats that ride a single unit together. Each takes the steel heart and the steel limbs, respectively.
What in this issue is canon and what is new. The Godframe (降神太甲) archetype itself is a new expansion not recorded in the catalog. But its parts are all canon — the Kunitomo Guild's «Prototype Autonomous Machine Person» (
co-02-03), Divine Artifacts (co-07-03) and Exotic Artifacts (co-07-04), and the factions of the three heretics (co-02-03) all exist in reality. The Godframe merely interlocks these canon parts at colossal scale; it makes no new stat and no new roll formula — round, Critical Hit / Heavenly Mandate / Karmic Retribution, Wounds / Energy / Defense, Domination, Pierce — every mechanism that upholds its operation is the existing co's. Even the Firepower pool that holds the giant's "striking force" is no new stat but a derived reserve drawn from the Artifact's grade, and the named Finisher that gathers that drive and detonates it is likewise nothing but a colossal-scale application of the existing [Kata] maneuver (details02·05).
#Two-Person Operation — Two Wills Caged in One Body
The Godframe does not run on one person. Only when two people enter one body does it finally rise.
- Pilot = the steel limbs. Takes movement and attack. Each round, performs the unit's main action on the Pilot's own turn count. The giant taking a step and landing a blow is all the Pilot's work. (Concrete rules →
02.) - Controller = the steel heart. Takes only the support actions (Control Arts) that handle the Artifact's drive. Cannot perform the main action. Distributes the drive, raises a Barrier, marks targets, and soothes the cooling heart. (Concrete rules →
02·05.) - Neither can take a single step alone. If one side falls, output plummets, or the giant simply stops (two-person coordination fragility). This is no mere division of labor — it is two wills caged in one body. If the Controller falls, the Pilot is buried alive inside a giant whose heart has gone still. Even if they hate each other, the two die as one body and live as one body.
Self-Heart (preview). Inserting a Divine Artifact is not the only path. Divine-rank classes (arahitogami · celestial · heroic spirit · hanyo) and certain Majin (Tatarigami · itako) become the person as the heart, igniting a Godframe with no Divine Artifact at all — the most intense drama of all. Details are deferred to
04. Here, only the single sentence that "there is also a path where a person becomes the heart."
#Why It Is Not Fixed as Epic
The Godframe binds «1 Divine Artifact + 2 people» into one body. Because the resources poured in always scale to that party's level, the giant's output too auto-scales always to «that party's baseline +α». And so the Godframe need not be fixed at the Epic tier — a weak party running it raises a weak giant, while a strong party fitted with a high-grade Divine Artifact raises a terrifying giant. It is a +α force that runs even in the heart of the main campaign, growing as tall as that table's own stature. (The numerical formula of resource equivalence is in 02 · 03.)
#Commentary — The Joint Work of Three Heretics
#Those Who Crossed the Line the Orthodoxy Forbade
The Godframe is no single faction's «official» weapon. It is the joint work of three heretics (renegades). Those who, within each faction, crossed furthest past the line their own orthodoxy forbade gave birth to the first frame.
While the orthodox Kunitomo Zenbee regarded the «yoma-core-driven autonomous machine person» as a perilous thing and sealed it underground (co-02-03), it was the Guild's heretic artisans who broke that seal and housed a god within. It was the Guild's greediest hand that supplied, as lubricant, the smuggling that Sakai's proper way of commerce (商道) turned away from; and it was the academy's boldest mind that laid atop a steel heart the «negotiation with yoma» that Enryokan had handled only as scholarship. When the three crossed, side by side, the line the orthodoxy had halted at, an artificial war-god opened its eyes for the first time.
#The Three Heretics — What Each Supplied
| Heretic Faction | What It Supplied | Canon Basis (co-02-03) | Form Embedded in the Godframe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kunitomo Guild (國友座) | Technology | A secret workshop of karakuri, autonomous machine people, and yoma-spirit-core-driven machines. The «Prototype Autonomous Machine Person» (Elite-grade · machine · immune to all · Runaway Risk: every lull, d100; on 01~10, attacks for 1 round regardless of friend or foe) | The Godframe is the prototype standing at the apex of that «prototype» line. The runaway risk is itself the source of Cooling Sequence · Overload (details 02). The yoma-core drive feeds the runaway. |
| Sakai Guild (堺座) | Gold (金) | «War is the finest trade» — a merchant league that smuggles the yoko and yoma-cores of Biu Mountain (尾羽山) (guildmaster Ebisuya Gin'emon). The lubrication of gold | The funding line that procures the power-source Divine Artifact and the yoma-core materials. "The heart beats only while the gold coins keep flowing." |
| Enryokan (遠慮館) | Knowledge | A forbidden academy researching «yoma and humans can coexist» (Ashikaga Yoshihiko). The realm's finest yoma knowledge, with precedent for handling yoma through «negotiation» rather than sealing | The source of the knowledge that stabilizes and synchronizes the heart (Divine Artifact · yoma). A drive tamed by accord at Enryokan becomes a runaway-free variant (details 06). |
※ Faction names are written in full — Kunitomo Guild · Sakai Guild · Enryokan. Each faction's foundation is likewise not abbreviated: technological innovation, the lubrication of gold, understanding of all things.
#Canon Binding — The Justification of This Design
A single line of the canon is the Godframe's very justification.
The canon setting that sealing «the Throne of the Spirit Realm (靈界の王座)» may require «the Hiei League's sealers + Enryokan's knowledge + Kunitomo Guild technology» all together (
co-02-03 §The Throne of the Spirit Realm) is, exactly as it stands, the Godframe's reason for being — humanity's last weapon. Here lies the tragic cycle that makes even hostile factions join hands: to make humanity's last weapon, humanity first transgressed the forbidden.
The Throne of the Spirit Realm is a threat that can become the common enemy of every faction (co-02-03). To stop it, the three must join hands, and the moment those hands clasp, the god of steel awakens. A weapon meant to save humanity is born by binding together humanity's three deepest taboos — this contradiction is the Godframe's spine.
#Spread Across the Warring Age
After the three heretics gave birth to the first frame, all of CO's factions (all 13) become entangled with the Godframe, each in the way that suits its own foundation. Some factions own a unique frame; some engage in the form of opposition, supply, parasitism, judgment, or corruption. The three heretics laid the first spark, but the blaze spread across the warring age.

(This document points only to the roster. The frame data is in 06 · 07 · 08.)
The riders are a «class», not a «troop type». A faction's unique «troop type» (e.g. the elite spearmen bound by Kagura Domain's regular military code, the Kunitomo Guild's karakuri infantry, the Hiei League's warrior monks —
co-02-03) is the Minion · Veteran · Elite stat block that forms a squad. The two people who ride a Godframe are PCs of the 33 «classes» (co-04-07). An effect such as «Kagura Domain's Godframe is incorporated into an allied squad», covered later (06), is the regular military code — a Faction Trait — scaled up to the colossal, not the troop type itself.
#The Extreme (極) Framing — Weight Is Design
The Godframe is, at once, an "easy-to-run +α force" and a thing whose "heavy, caged texture" is the very flavor of this issue. The Ponderousness, the Cooling Sequence each round, the bond binding two people into one body, the dependence that stakes everything on a single heart — these are not bugs but design. Had the giant been light and free, it would have been no god but merely a large weapon.
The conclusion of the operational tone is this: the rule documents (02 onward) are precise and practical, yet the texture their precision points to is always weighted to one side. He who borrows a god bears the god's will. Light victory is not the Godframe's.
#Scent — The Godframe Rises
Fiction-Only · seriousness ★★. If the main text (Brief · Commentary) is the tone of the practical, from here on we take in the giant's weight as Scent (香).
#Etymology
«Godframe (降神太甲)» is, taken literally, "the great armor (太甲) worn by bringing down a god (降神)." Yet the one who first stands before it thinks not of armor but of a coffin (棺) — a coffin to lay a god in. And into that coffin, two people enter alive.
#The First Step
When the ignition signal dropped, the first thing I felt was the heat of the heart.
The Pilot gripped the steel limbs, and I gripped the steel heart. In that moment we became one body — even while hating each other. I knew where his hand was going, and he knew what my hand was cooling. Two wills caged in one body began to share a single breath.
Across the field, the enemy archer slowly raised his bow.
I saw all of it — him nocking the arrow to the string, the string drawing back, the thumb-ring touching his cheek, its point leveling at us. I saw all of it. And having seen all of it, we were late. The giant moves late. The heavy thing is always late. That we were late even while knowing we would be — that was what frightened me most.
Late as we were, we broke him.
When the giant's arm came down a beat behind, everything I had seen in that single beat — the string, the thumb-ring, the leveled aim — was crushed all at once. Late, but in the end, it reached.
Each time I close a round, I offer the god my one mouthful. I lay my hand on the heart, soothe the rising heat, and break off a mouthful for the next single step. That cooling mouthful becomes the kindling of the next round — a giant left uncooled can never blaze up again. So even when greed would have me pour out everything, I keep one mouthful for cooling to the very end. The god is hot. I cool, a mouthful at a time. As heavy as the giant is, the one who cools that weight, too, grows lighter little by little — toward being emptied out.
Even so.
As the sun sank low, standing beneath the giant's shadow, I thought. We were late, and cooled, and full of hate. Even so, we raised a god, once. Before something human hands could never have stopped, we raised the god of steel once, upright.
That one time was enough for tonight.
