#Cohesion Replacement
Contents
module-toggle: replaces the core squad Cohesion (co-06-06). Compatible with 1st-expansion 01-06.
#Identity
The core squad psychology mechanic is Cohesion (結束力) (co-06-06): base 3 (Veteran squad 4), decreasing on loss of half or more personnel · the lord's incapacitation · yoma terror · entering/leaving the Core Zone · area hits, collapsing (Rout) on reaching 0, and being wiped out on reaching Wounds 0. Recovery comes from the Entertainer's "Flower of the Battlefield" and the lord's Beauty (美) morale check (lull). The core has no separate "morale value pool" — the Cohesion 0~3 (Veteran 0~4) scale plays that role.
This module replaces that Cohesion tracking with a squad-type · individual-type morale scale. Following the policy of ex2-00-05 §12, it dynamically maps core Cohesion 0~3 onto Variant A's morale 0~10 or Variant B's individual morale 0~5. That is, it is a variant that replaces core Cohesion with a more finely subdivided scale.
#§ Variant A: Squad-Type Morale (Large-Scale Combat)
Cohesion replacement. This variant expansively replaces the core Cohesion 0~3 scale with a squad morale 0~10 scale (
ex2-00-05§12). The core's collapse (Cohesion 0) corresponds here to morale 0 = collapse (Rout), and the core recovery sources (the Entertainer's "Flower of the Battlefield" · the lord's Beauty (美) morale check, co-06-06) are converted directly into morale +N and applied.
Procedure:
- Squad-unit morale 0~10 (starting at 5). Proportionally expand core Cohesion 0~3 into 0~10.
- Morale -1 when 1 squad member dies · -1 when a friendly squad dies · -3 when the squad leader (lord/general) is incapacitated. (Subdivides the core "loss of half the personnel · lord's incapacitation · yoma terror · Core Zone · area" decrease sources onto this scale.)
- +1 when 1 squad member lands a Critical Hit · +1 when a friendly squad joins · +2 right after a victory. The Entertainer's "Flower of the Battlefield" · the lord's Beauty (美) morale check (lull) each give +1.
- Collapse (Rout) on reaching morale 0: removed from the zone · Dominance 0. The lord's Beauty (美) check during a lull can return morale to 1. If Wounds 0, wiped out (co-06-06 squad status system).
- Frenzied charge on reaching morale 10: attack roll +2 · Defense -2 (1 combat).
Effect:
- Morale is a dynamic resource. It fluctuates every round.
- It shows its true value in large-scale squad combat.
- Naturally compatible with 1st-expansion domain campaigns.
#§ Variant B: Individual-Type Morale (Individual Psychodrama)
Cohesion replacement (individual scale). Core Cohesion is a squad-unit resource. This variant moves it onto a PC · NPC individual psychology scale 0~5 for tracking (
ex2-00-05§12: Variant B = individual morale/madness 0~5). For a PC leading a squad, leave the squad's Cohesion as in co-06-06 and run this individual scale layered on top of it.
Procedure:
- Each PC + major NPC has individual morale 0~5 (starting at 3).
- Morale -1 on a companion's death · serious injury · -2 on a trusted NPC's betrayal.
- +1 on victory · restoration of friendship.
- On reaching morale 0, the PC gains a 1-session madness · depression effect (GM discretion).
- On reaching morale 5, a heroic strike (1 combat, 1 time): pay an additional Energy -2, and on a Critical Hit (double + hit), attack roll +5.
Effect:
- Tracks the individual PC's psychology. Emphasizes narrative depth.
- Squad-unit effects are weakened — suited to 1 vs 1 or small-scale PC campaigns.
#§ Core vs Replacement Comparison
The Core column refers to co-06-06 Cohesion (base 3 · Veteran 4, 0=collapse) — not a separate morale value pool.
| Axis | Core (Cohesion, co-06-06) | A squad-type | B individual-type |
|---|---|---|---|
| tracking unit | squad (Cohesion 0~3) | squad (morale 0~10, dynamic) | individual PC (morale 0~5) |
| fluctuation frequency | when a decrease source occurs (lull batch · immediate mix) | every round | every event |
| result on reaching 0 | collapse (Rout) · wiped out if Wounds 0 | collapse (Rout) | 1-session madness · depression |
| suited campaign | standard | large-scale combat | psychological drama |
| 1st-expansion domain compatibility | partial | full | partial |
#§ Recommended Situations
- A squad-type: 1st-expansion domain · large-scale combat · war campaigns
- B individual-type: small-scale PC · psychological drama · narrative-centered
#§ Not Recommended
- A: 1 vs 1 duels (squad-unit effects absent)
- B: large-scale combat (PC tracking is dispersed)
#§ Transition Guide
- Core (Cohesion) → A: proportionally convert each squad's current Cohesion 0~3 into morale 0~10 and transfer it onto the squad morale sheet (
ex2-00-05§12 mapping). If running 1st-expansion domain morale in parallel, unify the scales. - Core (Cohesion) → B: introduce a PC individual morale sheet at campaign start. Keep squad Cohesion as in co-06-06 and layer the individual scale on top.
- A · B → Core (Cohesion): abolish morale-scale tracking and immediately return to co-06-06 Cohesion 0~3 (Veteran 0~4). Reverse-convert the current morale value to the Cohesion scale.
"War begins with weapons and ends with morale."
