#How to Use Baekgwi Jeonseunggi

Contents

This document explains in what order to read fc08 and which material to apply to which situation.

#Opening Vignette - The First Page of an Old Bestiary

The first page in the archive had no picture.

The young onmyoji thought it was a damaged page. But the old clerk shook his head.

"The first page is always left empty. The moment you draw what you do not know as if you knew it, the bestiary becomes not a talisman but a lie."

"Then may I look from the second page on?"

"No. First look at the empty page. What you fear will be reflected there. After that, give it a name."

The young onmyoji ground his ink. As the smell of ink spread through the archive, a very small footprint formed in the middle of the empty page. It was smaller than a mouse and broader than a child's hand. And it vanished at once.

The clerk did not smile.

"Now it begins."

#Scent - This Book Is Closer to a Ledger Than a Bestiary

A yoma bestiary gives names and values. But what makes a yoma long remembered in an actual scene is not values alone. Where it was first seen, who spread its name, what changed when the gate opened, which faction tried to hide or use that yoma—all of these are needed as well.

Baekgwi Jeonseunggi fills in that joint. It treats yoma as combat units, kaidan, places, factions, companions, and PCs all at once, while keeping the base rules of co as the canon.

#Relationship with co

  • Combat difficulty and base stat blocks follow co-08-02.
  • Encounter counts and rank placement follow co-08-01.
  • The canonical character and Faction Trait of factions follow co-02-03.
  • The new data of fc08 is canon only within fc08. To use it in another volume, treat it as optional material.

#Operation - Three Modes of Use

ModeUse
Commentary modeDescribe existing yoma more persuasively. Values are not changed.
Variant modeAttach era, place, and rumor variants to existing yoma. Values are adjusted slightly.
Expansion modeUse enhancement backgrounds, yoma organizations, and yoma PC classes. Prior agreement is required.

Yoma PCs and yoma companions are always expansion mode. Do not permit them by looking at combat power alone; decide together what taboos and costs arise in human society.

#Closing Words

A bestiary cannot confine yoma. It only sets up a name tag in the place a yoma has passed.
