#Doman-School Additional Sorcery
Contents
Campaign Module — for ex2 spell campaigns only. This document is fc04-only additional spells layered on top of the
co-04-07-04-onmyoji.mdonmyoji class + the ex2 sorcery/exorcism spell system. The Doman school is not a new class but a villain-type application of the onmyoji + some demon classes (tatarigami, shikome-no-tsukai). At tables that do not use theex2spell structure, these spells are not permitted as independent slots.
Notation note: The Maneuver Type in each spell table is the actual execution type ([Kata], [upkeep], [aptitude], and so on), while descriptions like curse/reverse sorcery/forbidden shikigami/self-sacrifice are the Effect Category. The
Typenotation of theex2body is the actual maneuver type, so do not change it wholesale.
Even-dan handling: The spells of 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th dan are not independent slots or independent acquisition stages. When you reach that dan, they are offered only as a replaceable option for 1 nearest odd-dan Doman-school spell already acquired.
#Fiction Intro — The Blank in the Forbidden Book
The book of the Doman school had many erased letters. The disciple pointed to a blank and asked. "Master, why is this blank?"
The master laughed. "That is where the real spell begins. Because the reader fills it with their own desire."
"Then is it not dangerous?"
"It is erased because it is dangerous." The master scratched the blank with a nail. The paper turned ever so slightly black. "The orthodox teaches what one must do. The Doman school asks what one wants to do. That is why it is fast, and that is why it is filthy."
The disciple's throat was dry and he swallowed. "I want to save people."
"A good desire," said the master. "But the moment you write whose name you will sacrifice with that desire, you have already read the rest of the spell."
The blank was still blank. But the disciple saw his own letters rising up within it.
#The Position of This Document
- The pair of the Seimei school (
fc04-05-03-onmyodo-seimei.md). - Heterodox Onmyodo — curses, reverse sorcery, black-magical.
- Morally recommends Black-Heart and Demon-Heart PCs. An orthodox PC can also learn it but with a reputation penalty.
- Often used for NPC villains — Ashiya Doman himself makes some of this section's 7th~10th-dan spells his signatures.
#The Character of the Doman School
| Axis | Character |
|---|---|
| Curse | continuous damage to the enemy — Wounds -N each breath |
| Reverse sorcery | breaking the Barriers and shikigami of orthodox onmyoji |
| Self-sacrifice cost | as the price of a powerful effect, part of the caster's Wounds or soul |
| Forbidden shikigami | employing the human-faced insect, the gaki, the plague demon (different from orthodox shikigami) |
| Stance | aggressive, heterodox, self-desire |
Contrasts exactly with the Seimei school (defensive, orthodox, court).
#Handling When ex2 Is Not Used
At a table without ex2, the spells of this document are not used; instead, operate with the combination of co's demon classes (tatarigami, shikome-no-tsukai) + the onmyoji class body. The "co Standalone Alternative" box at the end of each spell entry is a reference for interpreting the effect, not a rule that opens an fc04 spell slot.
#Doman-School Recoil/Reaction Table
The Reaction of Doman-school spells is handled in the following stages. If the value of an individual spell table is more specific, apply that value, but follow this table for the timing of recovery and for permanence.
| Reaction Stage | Notation | Handling |
|---|---|---|
| none | none | no additional Wounds cost. |
| minor backlash | caster Wounds -1, 1 breath | Wounds -1 right after casting. Recovers at the next lull or scene's end. |
| scene backlash | caster Wounds -1~-2, 1 scenario | recovers after the scenario's end or a purification rite. |
| major reaction | caster Wounds half or -3 | not recoverable until the scenario's end. If there is a purification rite, partial recovery at GM judgment. |
| permanent reaction | permanent | remains in the campaign record. Does not recover without a separate scene such as purification, atonement, or dissolution of a pact. |

#9th Dan
#"Soul Bargain (魂の取引)"
| Item | Value |

| On Failure | loss of 4 caster Energy + the caster Wounds half as is. No effect. |
| School Boon | Only a Doman-school PC can cast it. An orthodox PC automatically fails the cast attempt. |

#10th Dan
#"Reverse Divination of Taizan Fukun (泰山府君の逆占)"
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Maneuver Type | aptitude (Wisdom) |

| Recovery | permanent (campaign) — caster Wounds -3 permanently. Does not recover even with other PCs' recovery effects (the price of twisting fate). |
| On Failure | loss of 5 caster Energy + the caster Wounds -3 as is. No effect. |
| School Boon | Only a Doman-school PC can cast it. |
This spell is the Doman-school variant of the Seimei-school "Divination of Taizan Fukun" (
fc04-05-0310th dan) — if the orthodox "sees" the ending through divination, the Doman school "twists" the ending through divination.
#"Soul Fire (魂火)"
| Item | Value |

| Effect Category | soul fire · direct damage |

| On Failure | loss of 5 caster Energy + the caster Wounds -2 as is. |
| School Boon | Doman-school PC: Target Number -2. Enemy Wounds -10 → -12. |
co Standalone Alternative: the strongest strike of the co demon "Shurado," or the divine-punishment variant of the "tatarigami."
#School Boons (Doman-School PCs Only)
A PC who is a main-class onmyoji + Doman-school Licensed receives all of the following adjustments:
| Adjustment | Effect |
|---|---|
| Curse-spell Energy cost -1 | cast Energy -1 on all curse-type spells (Light Curse, Medium Curse, Rite of Great Curse) |
| Reverse-sorcery Target Number -2 | Target Number -2 on all reverse sorcery (Lesser Reverse Curse, Reverse Shikigami, Fate Twisting) |
| Forbidden-shikigami affinity | additional Energy -1 when handling the human-faced insect, gaki, or plague-demon shikigami |
#Drawbacks (Penalties of the Doman-School PC)
| Penalty | Effect |
|---|---|
| Reputation -2 | Negotiation check -2 (when an NPC recognizes the Doman school). As the Doman school dies out after the late Heian, the penalty strengthens to -3. |
| Hostility of orthodox onmyoji | Automatic hostility begins when meeting a Seimei-school NPC. The same goes for the Tsuchimikado house, and so on. |
| Black-Heart/Demon-Heart recommended | Choose the Black-Heart or Demon-Heart side at a moral decision point. An orthodox PC can also learn the Doman school, but decision points that conflict with their own morality arise frequently. |
#Doman's Signatures (NPC)
In this volume, if an Ashiya Doman NPC sheet appears (possible in seed 4 "Death of the Court Onmyoji" of the aristocratic scenario fc04-06-01, and the like), place some of this section's 7th~10th-dan spells as signatures:
- "Death-Agony Visage" — Doman's standard strike
- "Rite of Great Curse" — Doman's wide-area curse
- "Soul Fire" — Doman's strongest strike (scene backlash: caster Wounds -2, 1 scenario)
- "Soul Bargain" = Doman-exclusive (NPC only) — the most powerful of Doman's signatures. Even a PC Doman-school user cannot use it.
When operating a Doman NPC directly, the GM composes it referring to this section. There is no separate NPC sheet in this volume.
#The Division Between ex2 and fc04 (Doman-School Side)
The Doman school is compatible with both the onmyo main section + the exorcism main section.
| Dan | ex2 onmyo | ex2 exorcism | fc04 Doman-school additional |

| 10th dan | ex2-35-08 | ex2-35-14-exorcism-spells-10dan.md | "Reverse Divination of Taizan Fukun," "Soul Fire" |
When using ex2: both main sections + the fc04 additions are all usable. But the Doman-school even-dan spells are not independent slots but options that replace 1 nearest odd-dan Doman-school spell already acquired when that dan is reached. When not using ex2: operate with the combination of the co onmyoji + co demon classes (tatarigami, shikome-no-tsukai, Dokuchushi). The spells of this document are not opened as independent spell slots.
#Tone — The Deepest Shadow of the Heian
A dark, sticky shadow. The deepest shadow of the Heian.
Not the "onmyoji of justice" but the "onmyoji of self-desire."
The Doman school is the mirror of the orthodox Seimei school, but the figure beyond the mirror is exactly the opposite. At the hour Seimei was purifying Michinaga's bedchamber, Doman sent a human-faced insect to kill a rival in the consorts' quarters. The two studied the same learning — but at the end of that learning, they went down different paths.
#In One Line
"To carve oneself away to carve the enemy away — that is the way (道) of Doman."
