#Domination (制壓)

#Calculating Domination
#Scent — Weight of the Front
If five ashigaru stand in the Front Zone with spears set, and behind them a samurai stands with hand on blade, the enemy cannot recklessly step into that zone. This is Domination: the sum of numbers and quality, the weight of the front.
#Law — Rules
Calculate allied and enemy Domination in each zone separately.
Unit Contribution Values:
| Unit | Base Domination | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mob | 0.5 | headcount effect |
| Minion squad | +2 (at full strength) | decreases by headcount proportion (4/5 → 1.6) |
| Veteran squad | +3 (at full strength) | decreases by headcount proportion |
| Veteran individual | +1 | independent Veteran, not a squad |
| Elite | +4 | personal presence |
| Lord | +1.5 | the commander themself |
Bonuses:
| Effect | Bonus | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Yari set on the Front Zone | +1 | Front Zones only |
| Checking Stance | +2 | spend 2 Energy, cannot move that round |
| Presence (美) aura | +Presence; none if Presence is 0 or lower | when a Lord/Elite is present in the zone |
| Shield Wall Formation | Domination x1.5 | squad order, 2 Energy |
Core Exception: In the Core Zone, bonus effects are invalidated and both sides' Domination cancels out (Zero-Sum). See Core Rules.
#Calculation Frequency and Rounding
- Recalculation Timing: (a) at the start of a round, (b) when a unit enters/leaves a zone, (c) when a unit dies or releases a stance, (d) when entering/leaving the Core Zone. Do not recalculate every breath.
- Decimals: after all sums are complete, perform final rounding. Keep decimals during intermediate calculation. Example: Lord(1.5) + Minion squad 4/5(1.6) + Immovable Formation(4) = 7.1 → 7.
- GM Convenience: for simple play, squad proportional values may be integer approximated (Minion 4/5 → 2, 3/5 → 1). In that case, keep it consistent throughout the campaign.
#Effects of Domination
#Scent — Meaning of Initiative
Dominating a zone means you can control those who enter it. When an enemy steps into your territory, they expose their defenseless back in that moment.
#Law — Rules
| Allied Domination vs Enemy Domination | State | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| allied > enemy | Allied Control | enemy entry requires Breakthrough |
| allied = enemy | Stalemate | both sides can enter freely |
| allied < enemy | Enemy Control | allied entry requires Breakthrough |
| difference 5 or more | Complete Control | Breakthrough Target Number +2 |
#Domination Changes
#Law — Rules
Domination changes in real time.
- A unit enters/leaves: recalculate immediately.
- A Minion dies: squad headcount decreases → proportional decrease.
- Checking Stance released: bonus disappears.
- Area Attack: many casualties → major drop.
- Squad Rout: that squad contributes 0 Domination.
Domination is the battlefield's heartbeat. When it rises, initiative; when it falls, despair.
