#The Heart — Artifact and Self-Drive [Variant]
Contents
This document belongs to front. The operation body for Energy, the Cooling Sequence, Ponderous, and the Firepower (火力) Pool lives in
02; parts and Core grade are in03; the Finisher system is in05. This document covers only the heart-side variables that set the size of that pool (Artifact grade → Firepower · Core grade · self-drive resource) and the heart's own weaknesses (attunement, Rampage, destruction). The Legendary Godframe (world-Artifact heart) is the domain of08.
#Data — What the Heart Is
A Godframe is not armor but a coffin — a coffin to lay a god to rest. The seat at the very center of that coffin, where the god is laid, is the heart.
The closing of co-07-03 warns the bearer of a Divine Artifact: "One who bears a Divine Artifact borrows the power of a god. But the power of a god always comes attended by the will of a god." The Godframe receives that warning at the scale of a giant. It does not borrow a god — it lays a god down and makes it the drive — so the will that follows is likewise vast.
The heart supplies two things to a Godframe — the Energy that raises the frame up and sets it moving, and the Firepower (火力) that calls the god forth and fires it. Energy comes from the Core (frame drive); Firepower comes from the Artifact (the god's authority). The two never mix.
#Data-1. The Heart = One Divine Artifact Slot in the Core
The heart of a Godframe is a single Divine Artifact seated in the Core (核, Core) of the part system (03). The Core is the foundation of the Energy pool and the seat of the special-art bundle, and Core grade ≥1 is mandatory (Core 0 = halted). The single Artifact seated there uses the Divine Artifacts of co-07-03 and the exotic relics of co-07-04 as-is (no reprint — see opt-in).
The general rules for Divine Artifacts follow the canon: Divine Artifact = masterwork + blessing/curse [aptitude] + devotion arts (7 arts by the co-07 standard). The [aptitude] effects of blessing/curse, the per-session limits of devotion arts, and the Three Ways and Six Hearts alignment conditions all operate in the frame just the same.
★Canon vs. new — the distinction. "Seating it as a heart" is a new operational concept unique to the Godframe (new). But the Artifact being seated — Kusanagi, the Holy Grail, and so on — is real canon data. The Godframe does not inflate that Artifact data; it only interlocks it at giant scale (the guardrail is §Data-5).
The canon prototype for drive conversion is the Kunitomo Guild's "Prototype Autonomous Machine Person (試作型)." The structure that co-04-07-17 describes as "its heart is a mainspring and its muscles are gears," the Godframe reproduces at giant scale by moving an Artifact into the heart (co-02-03, Kunitomo Guild yoma-core drive machinery).
#Data-2. Energy — the Drive Pool the Heart Supplies (Fixed Low)
A Godframe's Energy is the Godframe's own drive pool, supplied by the heart — the pool for action, count (initiative), and the single-breath limit (5). It is a pool separate from the crew member's personal Energy: personal arts draw from the crew member's personal Energy, while the Cooling Sequence and Control Arts draw from the Godframe's Energy. The operation body is in 02; this document defines only the heart variables that set the pool's size.
Godframe Energy = 10 + Core part grade (0–3) = 10–13
- Base 10 = the yoma-style GM-set pool that does not apply the Autonomous Automaton PC formula (
co-08-02: "a yoma's / giant's Energy does not follow the PC formula of 10 + Spirit; the GM and the stat block set it"). - Core grade = the Core part grade 0–3 of the part system (
03). Core ≥1 mandatory. - Divine Artifact grade does not contribute to Energy. A giant thing does not move fast or much — the Artifact goes not to Energy but to Firepower (§Data-3). Core = frame drive (Energy), Artifact = Firepower. The themes are kept separate.
★Strict — this is not a new stat. A Godframe's Energy is not a new resolution system but a separate instance of the co Energy pool (precedent: the Autonomous Construct's Wounds = 4 + Physique as a separate pool ·
co-08-02yoma GM-set pool precedent). No new gauge and no new resource are created.
Energy is fixed low at 10–13 — a giant is ponderous. Because the pool is small, the risk of failing to pay the Cooling Sequence (1 forced at round's end, §Rule-3 ·
02) always rides along. Spend all your Energy and you cannot pay that round's Cooling Sequence, and you go into Qi-Exhaustion.
#Data-3. The Firepower (火力) Pool — Where the Divine Artifact Grade Goes [★new]
Firepower (火力) is a reserve separate from Energy. If Energy is "how much you move," Firepower is "how hard you fire." The Divine Artifact grade goes not to Energy but to Firepower — the better the Artifact you seat, the larger the Firepower, and the larger the Firepower, the harder you can hit in a single round.
Max Firepower = Divine Artifact grade × 2
Substituting the grade conversion (§Data-4 · §Table-A): Fine Work-grade 2 · masterwork-grade 4 · Divine Artifact-grade 6. An unloaded husk is grade 0, so Firepower 0 (no overcharge, no Finisher drive). A self-heart is (class Dan ÷ 2, rounded down) × 2 (§Rule-2). You may divert 1 leftover part-budget point into Firepower +1 (a build choice, tied to the 03 budget system).
Using Firepower (free expenditure) — Firepower is spent in the following four ways. The operation body is the domain of 02 and the Finisher of 05; this document only canonizes where Firepower comes from (the heart variables).
- Attack overcharge. Spend N Firepower → +N to that one attack roll. This is an overcharge separate from the +3 ceiling on a weapon's own resolution bonus (§Data-5). "To hit hard, you pour Firepower into the roll."
- Extra squad hit. Spend 1 Firepower → that area / trample attack lands +1 extra hit on a squad's units (on top of the hit-strength table).
- Finisher drive. Pay the cost of a named Finisher with Firepower (§Data-3-1).
- Temporary bonus. N Firepower (max 3) → +N to one of Defense, a mobility check, or Domination for 1 round. Once per round, nonstacking with itself.
★Firepower recovery = tying the Cooling Sequence. To fully restore spent Firepower next round, you must execute that round's end Cooling Sequence in full (
02§Cooling Sequence = 1 Energy forced at round's end). If a lack of Energy or overextension keeps you from paying the Cooling Sequence → Firepower unrestored + Qi-Exhaustion. That is the price of overdrive.
#Data-3-1. Finisher Drive — Heavy Firepower Expenditure
Each frame has one named Finisher (the system is in 05; each frame's data in 06 · 08). A Finisher spends 4 or more Firepower in bulk, is limited to once per battle, and fires after a 1-round charge (wind-up) (a slow wind-up = the staging of Ponderous).
The implication from the heart side is just one — to use a Finisher, the Firepower pool must be that large. A Firepower-4 Finisher can be ignited in a single shot only by a heart of masterwork-grade (Firepower 4) or higher, and only an artifact-grade heart (Firepower 6) leaves overcharge and extra hits to spare after the Finisher. A Fine Work-grade heart (Firepower 2) must bank Firepower over a 1-round charge, or divert leftover budget into Firepower. A heart's grade is its Finisher ignition power.
A Finisher does not break the "no damage dice" principle (
co-03-05). Pouring in Firepower hits not "harder" but "bigger" (wiping out many squad units · multiple area zones · simultaneous strikes on a giant yoma's many cores · Critical Hit expansion). Permanent Firepower inflation is forbidden — a Finisher exists only as a single large effect once per battle (05system).
#Data-4. The Grade-Conversion Table — Fine Work 1 · masterwork 2 · Divine Artifact 3 → Firepower 2 · 4 · 6 (the zn13 canonical posting)
co-07 defines weapon tier by number of arts (Issue Gear 3 · Fine Work 4 · masterwork 5 · Divine Artifact 7). zn13 condenses this 7-step spec into grades (格) 0–3 in order to run Energy, Firepower, and the part budget. This conversion table is exclusive to zn13, and is posted canonically once in this document — other documents (02 · 03 · 05 · 06 · 08) reference this table.
| Heart tier | co-07 art count | zn13 grade | Max Firepower (grade × 2) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unloaded (husk) | — | 0 | 0 | No heart. No Firepower, no Finisher drive |
| Fine Work-grade | 4 | 1 | 2 | The most common drive source. Finisher requires banking Firepower |
| Masterwork-grade | 5 | 2 | 4 | Can ignite a Firepower-4 Finisher once |
| Divine Artifact-grade | 7 | 3 | 6 | Ceiling. Overcharge to spare after a Finisher |
The grade ceiling of 3 and the Firepower ceiling of 6 are no accident — the grade is the same ceiling as the common +3 ceiling on masterwork/artifact weapons' own resolution bonus (§Data-5), and Firepower (grade × 2) is a separate overcharge reserve laid on top of it. Just because a heart is artifact-grade, a weapon's own bonus does not go above +3, and "harder" comes only from pouring Firepower into the roll.
#Data-4-1. Yoma-Core Drive vs. Pure Divine Artifact — Two Heart Lineages
Even at the same grade, the heart's character splits depending on what it burns for fuel. This section defines the lineages; the difference in Rampage profile is placed in §Rule-3 · §Table-B.
- Yoma-core drive (Kunitomo style). A heart that burns yoma spirit-cores for fuel. Firepower output is high and supply is easy (Sakai Guild smuggling · Biu Mountain supply), but Rampage risk is severe. Source: the Kunitomo Guild Prototype Autonomous Machine Person's "yoma-core drive machinery" and "Runaway Risk" (
co-02-03). - Pure Divine Artifact (Hiei style). A heart that refuses yoma-cores and ignites only Shinto and Buddhist Artifacts. Stable (Rampage mitigated) and anti-yoma specialized (can use exorcism / purification / barrier Control Arts), but the anti-personnel Firepower bonus is meager. Hiei League frames can only be pure Divine Artifact (Protection of Dharma Power · Sealer,
co-02-03). - Accord drive (Enryokan style). Driven by accord with a moderate yoma, granting Rampage exemption (no Overload), but dependent on the yoma's disposition (refusal when the relationship sours). Source: the Enryokan "Academy of Coexistence" and "handling yoma through negotiation" (
co-02-03). The detailed signature is the domain of06; this document places only the lineage-level Rampage-profile difference in §Table-B.
#Data-5. ★Limits — "Interlock Only, No Amplification"
This box is the heart of this issue's heart design. It is the top-priority requirement for canon consistency.
- A weapon's own resolution bonus = the common +3 ceiling on masterwork/Divine Artifact.
ex2-00-05 §10: weapon tier is defined by art count (Issue Gear 3 · Fine Work 4 · masterwork 5 · Divine Artifact 7), and the resolution bonus of masterwork/artifact weapons is normally capped at +3 (e.g., 2d10 + Courage + Swordsmanship + 3). No matter which Artifact is seated in the heart, a Godframe weapon attack's own bonus cannot exceed +3. "Harder" comes not from above this ceiling but only from Firepower overcharge (§Data-3①, a separate reserve).- Attack +5 or higher requires two or more EX2 §10 limiting conditions. If the heart Artifact's devotion/masterwork art is +5 or higher, that art's native limiting conditions (stance accumulation · designated target · Energy −N · instant-death check · environment · Critical Hit) apply in the frame just the same. They are not made permanent or amplified under the excuse of "giant scale."
- Devotion-art limits unchanged. The "once per session" limit of the heart Artifact's devotion arts and the "once per battle" limit of masterwork arts remain in force in the frame just the same. The Finisher (Firepower 4↑ · once per battle · wind-up, §Data-3-1) is also an effect within this limit system.
- ★No simultaneous scaling of recovery + extra action. No single heart special-art or Finisher grants "recovery + extra action" at once (the Holy Grail case).
- Defense alone scales by tier (separate from weapon bonus).
ex2-00-05 §10armor convention: masterwork armor +1 · foreign large breastplate +3 (with movement/infiltration penalty) · Artifact armor specified individually. The static Defense the heart adds to the frame's base Defense (17–18,03·02) is capped by this convention.- Ponderous and Cooling Sequence apply equally. No heart (including a Legendary Godframe) is exempt from the §02 penalties (Ponderous = last in same initiative · Cooling Sequence = 1 Energy at round's end).
- Half Pierce. A Godframe takes
[Pierce]only by half — only half of the armor bonus that [Pierce] ignores is negated (rounded up, the rest stays in force, §Rule-4 ·02). Teppo and siege are its bane but not absolute, and heart sniping/sealing is elevated to the primary counter.
#Rule — Heart Operation
#Rule-1. Attunement (同調, Attunement) — Heart and Crew Aligned
To ignite the heart Artifact, the crew member who handles that Artifact must satisfy the Artifact's devotion/understanding conditions. If unmet, the heart still supplies Energy (the drive pool functions) but the Firepower and devotion arts are locked — the giant stands, but the god's authority sleeps (treated as Firepower 0).
★Canon citation — zero new invention.
- Japanese Artifacts: follow Three Ways and Six Hearts alignment (
co-07-03devotion conditions — Shinto = Way of Mystery Truth/Demon, Buddhism = Way of Emptiness Compassion/Void, Onmyodo = Way of Mystery or Way of Emptiness, yoma origin = Demon or No Heart). On heart-shift (心轉), devotion lockout likewise carries over. - Foreign relics: follow the [understanding] 5 routes (
co-07-04devotion-art understanding routes — A cultural master · B Exotic Adaptation trait · C gaijin automatic · D heroic-spirit automatic resonance · E GM grant). If unmet, the opposite effect (50%) + cannot use the Artifact next round applies in the frame just the same.
Who holds attunement. In standard operation, the Controller, the Artifact-handling seat, takes charge of heart attunement. Self-heart classes are themselves the attunement subject (§Rule-2).
★The mirror (Yata-no-Kagami) = masterwork, not a Divine Artifact. Even where this document has occasion to mention the mirror as a heart candidate (the tie-in with the Legendary Godframe Amaterasu-no-Kaishin is the domain of
08), it must be noted as "masterwork (co-07-02eight-foot-mirror replica) · not a Divine Artifact." The mirror has no devotion arts and requires no [understanding] (masterwork rule). Being masterwork-grade, its Firepower converts to grade 2 (Firepower 4), and its heart aptitude is information/control (seeing through to truth). The §Table-C self-heart table of this document does not include the mirror.
#Rule-2. Self-Heart (自家心臟, Self-Heart) — No Divine Artifact Needed; A Person Becomes the Heart
Divine and transformation role groups (Arahitogami · celestials · heroic spirits · half-yoma) and some villains (Tatarigami · Itako) become the drive source themselves instead of seating an Artifact. Their power is the Artifact. In this case:
- The Artifact slot is left empty (or loaded with an additional Artifact for greater strength), and they themselves also hold the Controller seat (2-crew operation → in effect compressed to 1.5 crew).
- Energy uses the §Data-2 formula (10 + Core grade) just as is, but Firepower is linked to that class's Dan (below). When that power resource runs dry, the Godframe halts too — the class's intrinsic risk carries over into the frame.
★Strict — power resources are reused exactly as the existing rules. For example, an Arahitogami maps Faith score (
co-04-07-16§core resource Faith: 3 at battle start · max 10 · +1 per lull · −1 at Wounds −1 · all lost on incapacitation) directly to Firepower / the ignition resource. New gauges and new resolution systems are zero. (In the staging, "an offering laid before the god" is mere rhetoric; the machinery is the existing Faith pool's forced expenditure, just as is.)
★Heroic Spirit (33) canon consistency — the self-heart exception. A heroic spirit is not "the Artifact itself" but a spirit-body dwelling in a designated relic (one foreign relic co-07-04 or one Realm Wandering Relic) (co-04-07-33 [aptitude] memory of a past life). Therefore a heroic-spirit self-heart uses the designated relic's grade directly as the heart grade (Firepower = that relic's grade × 2). Spirit-body instability (when the relic is not held, an end-of-session retention check 2d10 + Presence ≥ 11; on failure, Wounds −1 permanently; Wounds 0 = annihilation) carries over as the frame's halt risk.
Self-heart Firepower formula (track separation). The Divine Artifact track (§Data-3) is computed from grade, but the self-heart track is linked to class Dan.
Max Firepower = (class Dan ÷ 2, rounded down) × 2
It covers the full Dan 1–10 range (e.g., a Dan 6 self-heart → Firepower = (6÷2)×2 = 6, equal to Divine Artifact grade). Energy uses the §Data-2 formula (10 + Core grade) just the same. However, a heroic spirit is a relic-dependent class, so compute by inserting the designated relic's grade into the Firepower track (§Data-3).
★Self-heart self-correction. If one person holds both seats (Pilot or Controller + heart), the resources committed are reduced and the self-scale may weaken → correction: when self-heart doubles up, only one of main/support runs at full power (splitting one's own turn between the two). Compute Firepower by the Dan track above, but power-resource depletion = immediate halt and risk carryover further offset it.
#Rule-3. Rampage / Overload — The Heart Breaks Its Vessel
★Strict — zero new states; reuse EX2 existing states.
- Overload base rule. When the Cooling Sequence (1 Energy forced at round's end, operation in
02) goes unpaid → Qi-Exhaustion that round (ex2-00-05 §9: single-breath limit 5→4, holds for the specified round). Because Energy is low at 10–13, pouring out Firepower excessively and spending all your Energy means you cannot pay the Cooling Sequence and Qi-Exhaustion actually occurs — accompanied by Firepower remaining unrestored (§Data-3). No new table is needed. - Worsening into Exhaustion. Grade overrun · two consecutive non-payments · yoma-core Rampage → Exhaustion (
ex2-00-05 §2: Energy 1 next round · defenseless 1 round · stance/reservation lost). It is the "lightweight version of the Kunitomo Rampage." - GM alternative (for campaigns). Artifact halted 1 round (the same line as the heart = Artifact-dependent penalty) or Wounds −1. The base rule is Qi-Exhaustion/Exhaustion; halt and Wounds-loss are campaign options.
The Rampage profile per heart lineage is in §Table-B — yoma-core drive = Rampage frequency/depth↑ · pure-Artifact = stable (1-step mitigation) · accord drive (Enryokan) = Rampage exempt · self-heart = power-resource depletion substitutes for Rampage (Arahitogami Faith 0 = halt).
★Rampage source.
co-02-03, the Prototype Autonomous Machine Person's "Runaway Risk: every lull, d100 01–10, attack regardless of friend or foe," is cited as the giant-scale prototype of Godframe Rampage. The base-rule Overload is the lightweight version of that Rampage (Qi-Exhaustion/Exhaustion), and the d100 01–10 friend-or-foe attack is GM-optioned only as the campaign-grade worst Rampage of a yoma-core drive heart. §Table-D of this document keeps the Prototype Autonomous Machine Person's general bench 01–10, and the Kunitomo yoma-core Rampage's signature new adjustment (01–15) is the domain of the faction document (06).
#Rule-4. Heart Destruction — Lose the Core, Halt
The Godframe's single vital point is the Core (heart). If the Core is destroyed, it halts immediately (no revival). This applies, symmetrically, the structure of the giant yoma's "Core Zone (心府)" in co-05-04 — the carnage where both armies are entangled, and the heart-center of the giant yoma. The Godframe too has a "Core = Core Zone" structure.
Half Pierce — why the Core is the primary counter. A Godframe takes [Pierce] only by half (02 · §Data-5). Only half of the armor bonus that [Pierce] ignores is negated (rounded up, the rest stays in force), so a Defense 18 frame (base 10 + armor 8) still holds at 10 + 8/2 = 14 even against [Pierce All]. Teppo and siege are still its bane but not absolute — to halt a giant for certain, heart sniping/sealing is elevated to the primary counter.
Heart sniping (anti-Godframe ①). When the conditions for striking the Core directly (below) are met → it directly reduces the Energy pool. Core Wounds 0 = immediate halt. ([Pierce] / direct-hit handling is co-03-05; Half Pierce is §Data-5.)
Heart-sniping trigger conditions. ① Pilot incapacitated, ② Head/Torso part destroyed, ③ infiltration first attack ([Direct] · automatic Critical Hit) — at these moments the Core can be struck directly. If Core Wounds is 0, it halts immediately and cannot revive.
Of the 3 kinds of anti-Godframe, this document specifies the 2 kinds directly tied to the heart (the remaining 1 kind = Fuma infiltration sniping targets the Pilot/Controller, so it is in 09).
- Sealing (Hiei League Sealer). When the sealing art "yoma/Artifact cannot act for 1 round" (
co-02-03) is laid on the heart (Artifact), the entire Godframe halts. Regardless of pure-Artifact or yoma-core — the heart = the essential weakness of Artifact dependence; sealing works even through Half Pierce, so it is the elevated primary counter. (The Sealer is a unique troop type — a full-name troop type, not one of the 33 classes.) - Teppo [Pierce All] (Kagura teppo corps).
co-07-01teppo [Pierce All] ·co-03-05: negates the armor bonus, but a Godframe takes only half of it (Half Pierce, §Data-5), so it accelerates Core exposure but cannot bring it down in one shot. (The full 3-kind table is in09; here, only the heart-destruction tie-in.)
Emergency-repair limit. A damaged Core/heart can be temporarily repaired only by 1 grade · 1 battle via the Control Art "Damage Triage" (co-03-05 emergency repair "+1 only · once only" citation). Core Wounds 0 (total destruction) cannot be repaired — triage only defers up to the brink of destruction.
Self-heart halt. A self-heart class's power-resource 0 (Arahitogami Faith 0 · heroic spirit relic loss · Itako channeling end) is handled the same as heart halt.
★Ikko-ikki exception (the named exception to the halt base rule). The Ikko-ikki's scrap-built faith-frame does not stop, by never-retreat faith — even at Core Wounds 0, it reboots once at Wounds 1 during the next Lull Phase (battle limit of 2). It is the sole named exception to the "Core Wounds 0 = immediate halt, no revival" base rule (details also registered in
03·06).
A person became the heart, so when the person falls, the giant falls too.
