Record of Famous Blades cover

Scope: This volume treats the masterwork arms within Japanese history and Japanese tradition. Weapons already registered in co·ex2·fc03·fc04 are not overwritten with new data; they are used through links, ownership conditions, curses, the relationship with the master, and anecdotal commentary.

Consistency principle: Masterworks follow co-07-02-masterworks.md; Divine Treasures and Spirit Realm Wandering Treasures follow co-07-03-divine-artifacts.md; the basic weapon slots follow co-07-01-weapon-catalog.md.

Data Catalog / Campaign Module — optional material. The masterwork data and owner bonds of this volume are optional material. When used, preserve the fun and narrative of each weapon, and do not overwrite the existing co weapon and Divine Treasure entries.

#Introductory Fragment — The Cabinet of Name Tags

On the innermost shelf of the armory there were no costly blades. Instead, only dozens of old name tags hung there. On one tag was the name of an owner, on one tag the place of a death, and on one tag a blank space still remained.

A young warrior pointed at the blank. "Is this a blade still without a name?"

Instead of answering, the swordsmith drew a single black scabbard from the shelf. The scabbard was empty, yet on its inside the scent of old incense had soaked in. "It is not that it has no name. It is only that the one who will speak its name is not yet alive."

"Then who decides what is a masterwork? The swordsmith, the master, or the record?"

The swordsmith handed the empty tag to the young warrior. "First the swordsmith makes it, next the master defiles or guards it. Last, the one who survives calls its name. This book is a ledger placed between those three."

The young warrior could not write his own name in the blank. Only then did he learn that to gain a masterwork is not to receive a reward, but to stand beside a name not yet finished.

#Common Writing Principles

  • Existing registered weapons are handled by link + commentary. Do not turn them into duplicate data under a new name.
  • A new weapon is first judged to be a masterwork or a Divine Treasure. If a god, a great yoma, or Spirit Realm binding is at its core, set it as a Divine Treasure or a Spirit Realm Wandering Treasure.
  • Weapon data does not depart from the slot structure of Attack A·Attack B·Defense·licensed technique·masterwork technique.
  • Energy is action power; Wounds is damage and durability. Do not mix the two terms in crafting cost·price·curse.
  • The swordsmith is not a new class but a build and additional options of the artisan.
  • Swordsmith schools follow the school rules. Do not collide swordsmanship schools with skill slots.
